So I just got a SWM set up on my directv system. I have 3 HR23's and the multi room DVR is great BUT I want to watch shows on demand like 1501 HBO on demand. I have wifi in my house and I noticed that each HR23 has a little white box connected to it via an ethernet cable. Does this make it wifi compatible and if so how do I enable it?

No, that box is for the MRV and is not wifi capable. You have to get the wifi adapter from DirecTV (they are brand new so they haven't made it to ebay yet), they cost $80. If you want a cheaper solution, and can swing a wired connection back to your router, you can get the wired connection kit for about $25 shipped on ebay.
If you have whole home dvr you can order the wireless cinema kit to get on demand for $25 plus $7 ship in the equipment sectin on your online accout.
