Hello everybody! I've been researching my first FTA setup, and this site has been a valuable resource. A big "thank you" goes out to everyone that contributes here. For my setup, I was thinking I'd have two motorized 120cm dishes, one for Ku and the other for C-band, along with an AZBox receiver. I was looking through the pictures of the dish farms that everyone posted, and see that some people have both fixed position and motorized ones in their farm. I would also leave fixed position dishes pointed at certain birds, if it makes sense to do so. I wanted to compile a list of satellites that people leave a dish pointed to at all times. What is everyone's "Top 5 Full-time" satellites at which you'd leave a fixed position dish pointed? Thanks for your input!

I have fixed dishes on 72W, 101w , and 95w for KU, and a cband dish fixed on 91W.. another ku is pointed at 63W for PBS right now, but that is ending later this summer so I'll have another to re-point someplace else, like 103 for Pentagon channel.

No fixed dishes for me anymore. Motorized 8 foot for Cband and Motorized 36" for KU. I got lazy this winter and got tired of adjusting the fixed dishes for various sats..Blind

expanded thinking

You might also consider the possibility you could get two (sometimes more) satellites on one dish.
So, with three dishes you might pull in 6 - 9 birds.
That sort of thinking moves you toward multi-LNB switching networks.
And , they can become more complicated if you feed multiple receivers. ;)
In the end, you might wind up with something like Linuxman currently has, with 30 LNBs feeding his house full of receivers.

I've got right now all but one dish on the C band side and the only dish I use for KU is locked on 101 for the FOX audio. This will change this summer when I add a 1.2m Prodelin dish that I was able to rescue for all my KU needs by using a multi LNB bracket. If you've already check out the available FTA channels here you might also check out http://global-cm.net for his listing.

I have thought about having multiple LNB's on each fixed dish, but currently don't have any type of satellite meter, and didn't know how hard it is to dial them in without one.

Fixed 1 meter Ku-Band dish on 125W for the PBS channels, fixed 1.8 meter (6 foot) C-Band prime focus dish on 87W for the various services there (NASA-TV HD, MeTV, ThisTV)...

87c, 97ku, 125ku, 91c, 99c, 103c, 101ku soon to be moved if History is history. using openbox and loving it!

I would guess that trying to setup a multi LNB bracket would be a real pain especially on the KU side now the C Band side you could probably mount a dual LNBF and pick up two channels on the same satellite, but I'm not sure if you could mount any other type multi bracket and get it to work. Maybe someone else has already done this. As far as a meter type, there's a lot out there, some good and some junk but to help you'll find some reviews on this site and others, otherwise just do a lot of research and look for a meter that best suites your needs. For myself, since my plans are for a multi bracket setup. I've already decided on trying the First Strike Meter which I think will best suite my needs.

30ku Cuban movies ;)
83ku RTV/TUFF :) (Tuff only at midnight)
87c MeTV :D
97ku various news channels :)
101ku History (defunct) :(
125ku PBS :)

The above dishes are fixed and on a switch for instant channel changes.
The 6' Cband has a motor but I have no need to move it off of 87 AMC-3. :D

Soon I am putting up a 10' C-band and motor and sometime this summer I am putting up a 1m ku with a motor in addition to the above dishes.
Just for fun.

I need to switch the dishes around again because I put my biggest ku dish on the PBS satellite for better reception. So now I have two pointed at 125. I need to put one back on the Cuban satellite. As for 101, eh.. That was a real loss. I'll leave it as is for a few months and if they don't fix it I'll figure out something else to point it at.
