Dish for 6 months with No phone line or ethernet

I do not have a home phone and I never bothered to run ethernet to the box.

Am I missing out on anything by not having my box updated?

With phone -caller id on your tv , if you sub to it through your phone company.

Ethernet - video over the internet . Some free content , hd content and pay per views .

Just dish online with the Ethernet, and some other features like ordering ppv on the box with phone line, but the box updates from the sat, not phone or Ethernet.
