Gripe?
Yeah, I gotta GRIPE!

Question: Who was the first carrier to announce it plans to carry Private Fantasy Channel?

Answer: DISH

Once upon a time Dish once promoted itself as the "clean" family-friendly alternative to DirecTV and cable ..................... now look how far they have fallen.

Charlie Ergen is a PornDog .... he's sold his soul and his company and his subscribers to the devil.

Thanx 4 letting me vent my gripe ... I'm sure most of you feel the same way as I.

:x

Have you looked at DirecTV or your local cable company lately?

I wouldn't say Charlie is a porn dog, I would say he is more of a money dog. :)

BTW Bert, I do appreciate you posting your gripe here. :)

I have never understood this argument. If you don't want these channels then don't subscribe to them. Both providers even provide the option to have them not even show up in the guide. So if you do not subscribe and remove it from the guide then how does it effect you?

I have to agree with Silver on this issue.

It was the "censorship" issue that brought me to Dish in the first place.

When NYPD Blue first premiered, our local network station felt that our area was not mature enough to handle such "porn" and refused to air it.

Back then you didn't need waviers to get the national network feeds. I signed up with Dish and got the the national feeds, just to have a choice as to what I wanted to watch.

Other than a little less sleep on Tuesday nights, it hasn't seemed to cause any damage. In fact I am now becoming spoiled and actually believe that I can decide for myself other things such as what to eat, where to go, who to vote for and all the other decisions that come from a lack of censorship.

OK, McCarthy.

What makes this country great is that adults can do as they like. This country was founded on this principle. Just as I cannot impose my moral structure upon you, you cannot impose your moral structure on me.

You can, however, vote with your dollars. I hope that you and "most of you [that] feel the same way as I" please do so.

My bet is Dish doesn't feel it.

Don't let this guy get to you. He posts this all over the forums under a couple of different names.
Can't wait what he has to say when one of the Adult channel is offered in HD! I'll be the first one sending the E-mail to DISH to pick that up. That's the one that gets my $.

P.U. ... DISH stinx!

:D Hi ....................... As a followup to my last post let me acknowledge that DirecTV and cable both offer porn.

What my gripe was was that DISH initially pushed themselves as the family-friendly/clean alternative to DirecTV .................. but I guess $$$ won over morals and ethics in Charlie Ergen's universe.

Yeah ... I know all about the safeguards and all .... still, it's the principle of the matter, you know?

Sex is sold in every form of media. It's blaring at you everywhere you look or listen. I sure hope "Bert" doesn't have a television, radio, magazines, or newspapers. He's gonna be surprised.

I've got those channels locked and blocked. What I hate are all those shopping channels. I can't seem to convince my boss I need a fat raise because I have become addicted to shopping channels. I think I'll get Oprah to help me - I need someone to tape (I mean DVR) that for me.

 :D :D :D

Does this forum have an "Ignore" feature? Anither emedy would be to set up a separate Pornography forum and let Mr. Gordon moderate it.

Thinkin' maybe I can convince my old friend HectorShelagh to pay a visit here on these boards.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!

I would imagine that you spend a fair amount of time talking to Hector.

I hear you, Burt.

Burt Gordon is 100% in what he says and he is accurate.

Bear with this man, Geronimo as he speaks the truth.

I was one of the very early E* subs and one of the reasons why was that E* was family oriented at the time whether you agree with it or not. It doesn’t matter since the facts were that when www.dbsdish.com was first originated the link on the E* homepage under adult programming FAQ stated something like this... E* or Dishnetwork does not offer adult programming and we don’t plan on offering it since we are a family oriented provider. And Charlie Ergen once stated that E* would never offer adult programming. This is one of the main reasons why Roger/Rage went for E* when it wasn’t so cheap is because of principle and I stood behind E* because of that stance. I also was able to sub to Skyangel because Sky was on the same Sat as E* which is what? 119?
So I had the Top 50 (the top package at the time) and also subscribed to Skyangel and it was great while it lasted.

So Burt does have a Gripe since Charlie lied and said that there would never be any adult programming on E*. Whether you agree with it or not he lied! When Skyangel left 119 to 61.5 and they hired that cable bastard things changed and to hell with all of us who went with E* for principles.

To hell with us!

Economics 101 supply and demand. If there is no demand for it then supply will stop. I do agree that Charlie it's at fault for breaking his promise about keeping the adult channel out of his business. But business model change over time and adjustment need to be made to survive your competitors. So, I am not blaming E* or Charlie, but the demand that exists for these channels. Again, I have nothing against the channel (to each its own). E* carrys, in my opinion, the best Adult channels out of D* and Cablevision in my area.

e.g., If I decide to get them there is nothing wrong with E*. That's my problem for given Charlie $30/mth out of my pocket.

I'm a E* and D* dealer and have sold many systems to religious folks just by making them understand how easy it is to block channel and to set ratings. Yes Mr.customer, there is porn and many other channels you may not want you family to be a part of, but look how easy it is to make them go away. Many folks swith from cable just for this reason. Hell, I like porn! It's 9/11 and I am reminded it is a free Country. Bottom line, Charlie is a business man and he is out to make money.

One feature no one has mentioned. Lock out any channel in the 490 range. From that point on none of the adult entertainment channels can be selected, directly entered nor will they show on the EPG.

It's as if they weren't there.

See ya
Tony

It was mentioned early in the thread Tony. Mr. Gordon posts on this often and the threads tend to follow a fairly predictible pattern.
