I posted a thread recently. Here is the link.

http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/293867-Lost-signal-Dish-wants-100-to-look-my-contract-ends-this-week-unsure-what-to-do

I'll summarize so you don't have to read it all.

*My signal went out and my contract was ending
*Dish wanted $100 to fix
*After contemplating jumping to DirecTV because of their current offers, I negotiated a deal with Dish

I've been with Dish for 6 years and never upgraded my equipment. I had a VIP622. I spoke with two account specialist and the both offered me the following in exchange for a new 2-year contract:

*Free upgrade to Hopper system
*Free tech visit to fix signal issue and install Hopper
*$15/month credits for 12 months
*$5/month credits for 24 months

I got my most recent bill and things were not as they were supposed to be. First they charged me $95 for a tech visit. When asked about this, Dish said the best they can do is a $75 credit. I said "fine" even though it was supposed to be free. Then asked why the $5 credit was not applied. Dish states that there is "no record or notes on the account" of such credit. I can't believe that the account specialist promises these things and I agree with a new contract and they back out. I have no recourse. They simply say, "there are no notes on the account" and "there is nothing we can do."

I am posting this so that others can be informed of their deceptive practices for their "valued existing customers." If you are thinking about signing a new contract with Dish to get certain promotions, be aware that Dish will likely not follow through on them once you sign a new contract.

Thanks Primestar and Claude. I would have never thought to call my attorney general. I responded to Maryb above and we will see if she is able to help. I will update this thread when I have more information. Thanks.

Thanks Skee7ix. I wouldn't normally yell and stomp my feet over $5, however, there have been a number of issues with this upgrade/contract extension:

1. Promised FREE tech visit to fix signal issue (I was out of service for 2 weeks) and install Hopper. I was charged $95 and had to call, only to be offered a $75 credit, so I had to eat $20 for something that I was told would be free.
2. Promised $5 credit for 24 months. When the account specialist made their first offer, I asked if they could offer any credits for months 12-24 and they told me they would extend the $5 credit. Now I'm not even getting it for the first 12 months.
3. Ordered a Sling adapter for the Hopper on October 17 and have yet to receive it.
4. The installation techs were nice, however, tracked mud onto our carpets.

I realize these are all somewhat small issues and individually I wouldn't have said anything. However, all of these things together made me want to speak my mind. Its the principle of the matter, that a company should not be able to promise you things, only to take them away once you sign a service contract.

When I ordered the sports pack the dish csr charged me full price instead of half price which was the offer and did not remove the protection plan as I had asked him. I noticed when I received the next bill but I think it was mary that fixed it and gave me a credit that took place before my CC was charged. DIRT is good peeps.

I have even seen this happen with my own account (yes I still have dish) and had credits promised and never issued.

I ended up calling back and got credit for something else, but the point is this does happen.

Only reason why I still got dish is for the Itallian station for my grandparents.

Used to pay well over $200 per month until I switched to directv. Now they are lucky to get $30

They sure are. Plus the people here on this board will answer your questions and help you out anyway they can. I got all my questions answered about Dish service and The Hopper. Then Matt from DIRT helped me get ordered and ready to go. Some very cool people on this board!

Yeah, some reps have the ability to lie.
My problem was that I wanted to upgrade to a DVR and they offered me the 922, and I asked: "But that is $10 a month for the DVR fee right?", and he told me "No it's $6"

But DIRT gave me credits for that, (which now ended anyway... :p ), but was able to change the 922 for a 722 without any charge.

Reminds me of when they promised me things then next time you call in they said they had no record of the deal whether it was for credits or to get a certain receiver. Makes me very angry especially when you wait on hold on the phone to speak to one person or another to make the deal happen and then told it is a go then before its all done you get disconnected while being put on hold.

That has happened to me before. After raising hell they finally say "Well we'll do it just this one time." Sigh...

Yeah, that is what they are all saying now. We will give you this one time exception but we cannot do it again. Sure you can't.

Hopefully they didn't put me on their "s**t list" that I hear people mention around here. I won't need to upgrade receivers for a good while though and the bill will be reasonable for the next couple of years (unless the price hikes screw that over.) If worst comes to worst, D* is not totally out of the picture...

If you don't use DIRT when you have problems you should at the least use the on line chat so you have a written record.
