DISH Network Reports Fourth Quarter 2007 Financial Results and Conf call Thread.

Damn it, I didn't realize there were TWO calls today, one for Dish Network and the Other for Echostar.

I am trying to get in on the Dish Network call now. Waiting for the operator.

Charlie: We expect to be competitive with HD. With the 100 channels we expect to lauch. 70's national channels now. (Goaliebob note:Enron counting). 34 local markets For HD LIL. Future HD Dependant upon satellite launches.

Charlie: We have appealed the TIVO ruling. 120 Mil + Interest. set aside for tivo. We have designed non infringing software and we have filed for a patent for that new software, and have downloaded it to DVR's

Charlie says: Competitors are rolling out fiber to the curb and fiber to the home in upper class residences, and more opportunity in the MDU market with new Ruling. Opportunities in Digital conversion's. We didnt stack up like against others in the q4 like how we wanted to.

Side Note: Uverse is rolling out in all class residence's here in the Chicago area.

Ouch. And DirecTV only did 200K more for the year.

Subscriber growth is definitely slowing now.
Part of it has to do with the success of FiOS; the other part having to do with super discounted cable triple play; but DirecTV having 200K move subscribers is all about marketing savvy. Has anyone seen D*'s new Mysery commerical...classic!

Keep in mind that higher profit can be the result of less new sub addition too because adding a new sub costs a lot of money upfront, which actually cuts in the profit. I think they only begin to make money on a new sub after the first year.

For example DirecTV said it cost them $760 upfront to gain a new sub, so had they not added the 250k net new sub last quarter, in theory their profit could go up by another 190 million in Q4. DISH is similar.

Well then look at it this way....DirecTV profit 25% Dish Netowrk profit 6%.

AMC 14 lauching next month. Targeted to go to 61.5. This satellite is a SATS launch under the Echostar brand. Echo 11 is a Dish Satellite launch, Ceil 2 is a Dish satellite, Launcing this year to increase HD and HD LIL. Page 7 of the 10K.

DVR penitration: Numbers not given out.

Let's be a little bit fair with Charlie. It's not like he didn't plan to have more capacity for new HD by now. Failures at ILS and Sea-Launch didn't help with their plans for capacity growth.

Still doesn't explain why he couldn't throw a couple of channels up in good faith!

Uverse is way behind on the HD curve (one HD stream at any given time) but their price is so attractive they can really eat into the lower end market, which Charlie will be impacted much more than DirecTV.

I don't think ATT/DISH bundle much of an advantage at all when ATT is seriously investing in and rolling out Uverse itself.

Charlie: AMC 14 will allow us to add 10 local markets a month until the end of the year. HD is bigger this year than last year. Directv had a great marketing Campaign and lead in the public eye as the HD Leader. We can do better there.

Then the call got cut off...! Operator comes on and says they will resume ASAP.
