dish quality control shows up at my house..

Just read this discussion and would like to say that Dish Network no longer allows audits to be performed without the customers knowledge. All quality inspections have to be full intereactive inspections with the customer at home. Sometimes the inspector might show up when the tech is still on site performing his duties. But, no more inspections are being performed where they show up and start taking pictures of the dish, cabling, house and property. If I saw someone on my property snapping photos without my permission I might get upset and even call the police to come out and find out what they are doing. In todays world of crazy people you don't know what to expect.
MY FSM does internal QC's. He always knocks/rings. If the customer is home he introduces himself and goes about his business. If not, he inspects the, job takes his photos and leaves. No big deal.

I had a service call this summer, and a few days later I found a note from the Quality Control person on my front door saying he had been here. I had no problem with him checking what he could from the yard, but I wouldn't have let him in the house. I've moved a lot of things around since the original install, and I wouldn't have wanted the tech to get blamed for the changes I've made.

We only get crapped on wqhen the customer mves stuff around and can't figure out he can't do that without changing/adding wiring or swapping connections. So you're ok...
Our FSM doesn't ask to go inside. If the cust invites him in to have a look, he checks the connections to see that the fittings are approved and that's that.
99.9% of customers cannot successfully alter locations of receivers.
Undr the old "in home service plan", service calls were free. But under conditions. One of which is that the customer did not alter or tamper with the equipment or install in any way. Failing that, the customer had to pay to have the system fixed. Under the current system custs can do anything they wish screw up the system, call dish and we get hit with a trouble call. It's Bullsh!t.

To the people that take exception to people on their property, without calling first, do you have natural gas, electric, water service? Do you have regular outside meters that need to be read? Does the utility company call first before coming to read your meter?

As the song says, "Paranoia runs deep..."

The utility companies, if they have something (meter) on your property have a caveat on the land which gives them certain rights to access that piece of equipment, BUT as is said you know they are coming and when. As well if it is a meter inside the house (water) they are required to access during specific hours of the day and MUST ask permission. You don't have to let them enter, BUT they do not have to give you service or sell you water/gas/electricity/etc.

Dish/Direct do not have a caveat...

Utilities companies do not need to go on your property anymore. They have a wireless device that reads your meters so they do not have to get out of the car. I dunno about you but all the houses I have owned in the last 10 years have had wireless meters. they drive to the front of your house get a handheld meter hit some numbers look at it and drive off. soo Now nobody need to be in your back yard anymore.

I find it hard to believe that most people on this site would run into those kinda issues. :D
I've been doing this a long time. Trust me. Most folks should just let the pros handle it. If you are the handy type, God bless you. All other should punch up the phone number then put their hands in their pockets.

That's not true. The water meter and gas meters are read manually here. I have have no clue when they come to read these meters, nor do I care. When I accepted the services I agree to grant access to the meters and any utiulity easements on my property. That latter applies to everyone.
Also, when a customer wenters into a realtionship with the telco and /or the cable company, they grant access to the lines above or buried under the surface of the property.
Another thing that a lot of people do not know. If your neighbor's electrical, telco, water, gas or water line is buried beneath your property you must by law allow access to the services. . For example, I have a friend who was a superintendant for a prodcution builder. He got a call from a homeowner about no electricity. The power company was contacted and they determined the service line had failed. The service line originated in front of a neighbors home. The line was buried under that neighbor's driveway. The line had to be replaced neceesitating the neighbor's drive to be excavated. The neighbor had no choice. The drive was above a utility easement. The power compnay had full and legal access to that service. Of course the power company bore the responsibility of restoring the driveway to it's original condition, whcih wass done..
Point is we have property rights . But when we engage in these relationships with utilities we grant others certain rights as well. It is the cost of living in cities or suburbs.
Dish Network has no such rights. However, it is just a heckova lot easier to just let the QC guy do his job. All this hard edged nonsense about people refusing access to the system "just because" is stupid.

I would say with new construction this is getting more and more prevalent, but certainly not every meter is wireless. The town I came from in Missouri, all new meters were wireless, but they weren't updating the old ones.
Now I live in Tacoma, WA... and i'm not exactly sure how it works, but the meters are all hooked up to the city's cable service. I guess that way they can read them remotely.

So I just got my new 4 room dish installed last week by an independent dealer who sent in their guy to isntall everything. Everything is working great. Then today another dishnetwork guy in their official van stopped by the house, got in the backyard and started taking pics of the dish, the wiring and i dont know wat. My mom alone at the house that time called me at work and told me , he wanted to come inside and take pics of the recievers too. I was pretty mad that somone would show up like that out of nowhere and wanting to get inside the house and also take pics from outside. I talked to the guy on the phone and he said, he was doing a quality inspection control or somthing like that from dish and they do that randomly for new installs....well i told him to leave the hosue immediatly and not take any more pics and leave a card when he leaves. He left right away but left no card or any paperworks to speak of. What is that all about?? Do dish really do that or was it first time? He did had an offical dish network van with all the logos etc so i cant say he was doing it without authrizing from dish. Should i call dish and complain to them about sending someone wihtout first calling and when my old mom was alone in the house? Thanks eveyrone

Yes. That's normal. The person was known as a QAS. Quality Assurance Specialist. They take a random sampling of jobs and inspect them for compliance. Although, the new policy is to make appointments ahead of time.

Thank you! I wish more customers were like you! I hate having to explain to the QAS why the system looks different in his pictures than when I left it. "Fail: 60" LCD sitting on top of a 722."

Where I live a locked privacy fence requires the utility meter reader to call on cell phone to our house 5-10 minutes before hand just to make sure we are home to let them get into the back yard to read the meter, it's been working great for years. No complaints from either side, them or us.

When Dish installed, the QAS came back several times we were told but because they didn't call, it took them those several time before they caught us home that last time. Looks like they would have learned after making the first trip here.

Last summer they installed the wireless devices on all the meters in the condos I live at!

Guess the QAS was one of those people who doesn't like to explain himself to gain the confidence of the public he deals with. His problem.
