Ok, I have a dish 500 and another dish 500 pointed at 110 119 and 61.5. I called Dish to inquire about the new HD channels and they indicated I was entitled to a free migration to the western arc and a technician would come onsite free of charge. I asked what that meant and at the time I was told I would be getting a 1000.2 upgrade. I got a call this morning from the technician who was coming out to tell me he would be out this afternoon to repoint my dish. I told him Dish said I was getting a new 1000.2 setup. He said his workorder only authorized a repoint. I called Dish back and spoke to a retention specialist. He indicated I was authorized for a 1000.2 upgrade, after a while he put me on hold and when he came back on told me he had spoke to the tech manager and he said in my area all the setups were like this. I told hiim all my neighbors had 1000.2 setups and he said there is nothing he could do. At that point I hung up. Well I waited all day and tonight at 8 pm I get a call indicating that the technician could not make it, I rescheduled for next week. Now my question, am I entitled to a 1000.2 upgrade, and what should I do next to insure I get one. I pay 160.00 a month and have been a Dish customer for 9 years. It seems I always have issues with them. Any suggestions would be welcome.

Wow, if they can't do a 1000.2 upgrade for you then they do not deserve to have you as a customer with as much as you pay. What will work best is to tell them that you want your service disconnected if they do not come out and put in a 1000.2 dish for free.

you were fine with two dishes when it was 61.5. so whats the big deal about getting it repointed?

thanks for wanting to make everyone elses bill go up to cover extra parts that you dont need.

They kept telling me that they would setup for western arc. I have the same setup but I kept getting the same thing for 129. I gave up and went online chat instead after explaining that when my dish was installed that I live in condo and where the dish had to go by condo assoc rules.I couldnt get 129 so they installed 61.5 at that time there was no eastern arc. Finally after that I was giving an appt for Monday between 8-12pm. Can u see 129 from your location. If so I wouldnt worry about it. If you can get to the dish you could probably do it without waiting for someone to come out. Just go to the list and there is a calculator that will give you the setting that u need to move the dish.

OP didn't say where he lives or what his set up is but I imagine he needs 129 to get the new HD's. I live in Massachusetts, my local HD is on 61.5. if I want the new HD's I have 2 choices switch to EA which means upgrading a receiver and running more RG6 to relocate the second receiver to take advantage of the HD output on TV1 or adding 129 (WA, 1000.2 dish) and keeping the wing to 61.5. My 61.5 dish would have to be relocated to be re pointed, but f i re point i loose my hd locals. After thinking this all through the later (WA) would be best for me. So please think things through a bit before you jump to conclusions. If in fact the OP needs 129 for the new HD then the reality is this is not really a discretionary upgrade and should be for free. Dish added the new HD's knowing that there would be customers that could not receive them. In my opinion they have the responsibility to be sure I have all the equipment to receive what I am paying for. If they make an upgrade to the package I am subscribed to and I do not have the equipment to receive the upgrade dish should install it free of charge or offer me a credit for the portion of service I am not receiving.
Of course the OP may just want the WA set up because everyone else has one, but that is still not a reason to be rude.

There is no single coax reception of HD except from a receiver connected to the dish. HDMI or 5 shielded RCA lines.

I dont see why they dont just reaim the 61.5 dish to 129 and be done with it

Plenty of threads on the board where DIY'ers are doing that

To the poster who made the above thread: I pay enough already in fees 160.00 a month. So I really don't care what it does to your bill. Been a customer for 9 years. I talke care of nearly all my technical issues myself. I am very technical, been in the computer business for 25 years. I work with very large telecommunication systems, so these type's of setups are really nothing to work with.

My point is this, I pay tons of money a month, I have the home protection plan, also I believe the 1000.2 should have been installed in the first place. I live in East Texas, and in fact repointed the dish myself. All other installations that I have seen in my area have been 1000.2 systems. I have always had nothing but trouble with Dish installations. The technician did not call, finally I got a call last night at 8 pm saying they did not know what happened to the technician. I rescheduled for Tuesday, now this morning I get a call saying the technician would be out at 12 noon today. After sitting around for 6 hours yesterday, I feel like I should be installed the new dish. I will probably just pay for a new dish myself and install it. The area where I have the two dishes is very cramped and I would be better off with one.

jhutchings, i have had the 1000.2 set up. in my opinion you would be better off to swing your 61.5 to the 129 spot. the signal quality for me, using 1000.2 wasn't nearly as high and sometimes causing macroblocking onscreen. when i went back to using the dish 500 and the swing dish using the old dp34 switch my signal and picture quality improved. just thought you might find this helpful.

Ended up repointing the dish myself

Thanks everyone. I can live with the two dish setup. Got good single on the repoint. It is just every time I have to deal with Dish I feel like I am getting screwed over.

Thanks again.

Thanks I was aware of that.

I currently have a 722 and a 322. My local HD are on 61.5. To receive the 9 new and presumably any other new HD channels I either need to move from my current 110/119 61.5 to either a Western Arc with 61.5 configuration or Eastern Arc. If I move to EA I will need to replace the 322 with a 211K or 222K and more than likely incur a 2 year comitment. To get full benefit of the 222K it would need to be located in a different place than the 322 currently is thus my comment about running additional RG6. As I have ahd more time to think this through, since Wednesday, I'm leaning more towards the Western Arc with 61.5 as it would be the least amount of work, provided I have decent LOS to 129. I have not seen any EA installations in my part of Massachusetts and only a handful of what I presume are WA (elliptical dish with three LNB's looking in the same direction as a 110/119) installations. I usually go through a local retailer so I will more than likely go over this with him, especially if I have topay the $15.00 (I have DHPP) that I shouldn't have to pay, he should get the cash instead or a random installer.

If there is a dish already at the location for 61.5 and I'm sent out for a 1000.2 setup I will just repoint the dish and bring everything else up to spec since there is no point in wasting the time which is money to me by taking both down and putting up a 1000.2. You have to build the dish, take the others down, seal holes you left behind, and so on. The 1000.2 also doesn't give the higher signals like the independent 500's do just from the fact that they are skewed too much.

Repoint in a heartbeat!! :up

You can have mine. The 1000.2 is not all it's cracked up to be. As DISH is finding out. I am having all kinds of problems with 129. I had a two dish set up and all was great. Then I was told I "HAD TO HAVE" a 1000.2. Well it's not working so well. I have had a field super out to look around and he said the only way to fix the problem was to go back to the two dish set up. Also the 1000.2's design catches the wind more, as per the super, and is ripping out the mount which is bolted into concrete. The other two mounts, 16 years old, the old second 500 and an HDTV antenna, are rock solid as the 1000.2 was before it was installed. So having the mounts already up the reversion will be no problem. But I have to fix the 1000.2 mount before we can proceed.

Go with a two disher, you won't regret it and you'll already have yours when your neighbors are having issues with 129 or are getting theirs switched over.

I would buy the 1000.2 and use one of the other dishes to point to the 61.5. I think in the long run it would be cheaper than assuming additional commitments, etc. and a lot less hassle. Some have indicated problems with the 1000.2 but i think the dish is fine and for those experiencing problems I think it may be more a matter of their location than the dish itself.

What if your HD locals are on 61.5 and you have a non-VIP receiver in your system. If I move the 61.5 dish to 129, I lose my HD Locals. If I go to an EA set-up, I cannot use my 522. I will need to add a LNB to my SD setup for 129 or use a twin LNB on my D500 dish that I use for 61.5. Either choice requires a trip up to the roof (currently covered with snow) and additional cabling. Add this to the recent huge additional receivers price increase and you've got a not very happy E* customer. I guess that I'll disconnect my 522 (and save $17/month) and set up an EA dish.

please read what the OP said and dont take my response and construe it. There are plenty of other threads here of the "I have a bastard setup (110/119/61.5....and it was said by someone else..not me) with a mix of MPEG4 & MPEG2 equipment and I need EA so I'm screwed" so we dont need that in here :)

The OP wants a D1000.2 but they will only repoint his 61.5 dish to 129 so he can get the HD channels. All national HD on 61.5 is on 129

Again, thanks everyone for their input. I am getting good signal on the two dish setup. This became a matter of principle with Dish. Like I have said earlier, these guys never seem to get anything right. I tried to get the EHD working on a 222k over the weekend and was told it could not be activated until a work order was complete. Well the work order was complete on Sunday and guess what on EHD, finally made it to a second level tech suppport guy. Well to my guess and his the 222k does not have EHD functionality yet. My fault, but my god shouldn't these guys now that stuff.

That is what this website is all about. The Satguys website has more information than the csrs do at DISH. You need to ask Us first before you believe anything that the csrs tell you. Don't ever assume that the DISH csrs know what they are talking about. You know what they say about assume?

Don't assume or they will make an ASS out of U and ME.
