Years ago when the 322/522 first came out, after the initial download a screen would pop up and make you connect a phone line and it would check for a dial tone before you could continue. I am convinced Dish only came out with those 2 TV receivers to assist in their obsession with account stacking.

I haven't had a landline in decades. I traveled full time in my RV for 10 years with 2 722s and later with Hopper. A landline would have been difficult.
Currently have Hopper III it has never seen a landline.
The landline at our family cottage in upstate NY uses an ObiHai analog telephone adapter (ATA) with free VOIP service from Google Voice. The calls also ring through to my cell phone using the Google Voice app..
