I have a DP721 and DP508. Just installed a DP Quad LNB to eliminate a SW64 that had a couple of corroded ports.

The DP508 recognized the DP Quad right away and is working fine.

The DP721 switch test shows

Port 1 2
Sat 110 x
Trans x x
Dev n/a n/a

Satellite Input 1 status: reception verified
Switch: No Switch

----------------------------------

Port 1 2
Sat 119 x
Trans x x
Dev n/a n/a

Satellite Input 2 status: reception verified
Switch: No Switch

I've replaced the existing cables with RG-6/QS and 2.4GHz grounding blocks
I also tried switching ports on the DP Quad, the DP508 works fine on any port but the DP721 won't work at all.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

unhooked both cables, ran switch test and got:

Port 1 2
Sat 110 x
Trans x x
Dev n/a n/a

Satellite Input 1 status: reception verified
Switch: No Switch

----------------------------------

Port 1 2
Sat x
Trans x
Dev n/a
Satellite Input 1 status: No Switch Detected
Switch: No Switch

same for 2nd tuner

reconnected cables, ran switch check and got same results as in original post

721 was on ports 3 and 4 and 508 on port 1

changed 721 to ports 1 and 2 and 508 to port 3

re-ran switch check

no change in results

I remember a similar story like this from a few years ago.
Thought it was something like frequency drift in the LNB, but not sure.
Is there any way you can test for that? Does the 721 have a screen?
Can you try a dual, or another quad?

I could be wrong, but find yourself a seasoned Dish installer, and ask.
There's a familiar ring about this tale. ;)

If he was using Legacy equipment before (SW64), I would clear the switch matrix and see if that helps.

Disconnect the satellite feeds on the 721 and run check switch. It will run for a while (38). Reboot the receiver and the connect the satellite feeds again and run check switch.

If that doesn't work, what kind of cable are you using. With Legacy you could use RG59 with Dish Pro you need to have RG6 rated to at least 2300 Mhz. Legacy equipment was less sensitive to bad cables and connectors, check all your connectors too.

I'll try clearing the martix again.

I have new RG-6/QS cable 25' to a 2.4 GHz grounding block then 25' to 721; times 2

Not sure how to test for frequency drift.

I don't have another dual or quad.

Update:

I used the 508 to check the cables going to the 721. The 508 detects the DP Quad on both cables and works perfectly.

Could this be a bad 721?

called Dish, have a replacement 721 on it's way

Should be here in a couple of days

I'll let you know how it turns out

When you disconnect the lines and run the switch test, you'll get a screen that says "Fewer Satellites Than Previously Detected". On that screen, you need to save the result. That'll complete the process of clearing the matrix. Then reconnect the lines and run test again.

If that don't work, compare your software version to the most current version. If it isn't the current version, you'll need to download your receiver by turning it off. It'll probably have to stay that way overnight.

More than likely, the cheapest way to serve a 508 and a 721 is to use a DPP Twin and a separator. Others should consider going that route.
