Eastern Arc... Without Eastern Arc Dish

I am currently on 110/119/129 but lose 129 pretty quickly due to rain fade... and 119, 110 are quick to follow. The dish is peaked so it's not an issue of alignment. I have LOS for all three satellites in EA and 3 of the 'old school' dish 300s (with Dish Pro LNBs that I can use). My receiver is EA compatible (622 and 722). Can I aim one 300 dish at 61.5, 72.7, and 77 each and get better signal strength/less rain fade compared to WA this way? I've heard/seen folks with a single dish at 61.5... but never one dish pointing at 72 and one dish at 77.

In fact, I've looked at 77 and that seems like mostly locals (not mine) so I don't even think I need it ...until if/when they add some nationals there.

Anybody done this setup? Yes, it will be redneck with 3 satellite dishes (I can say that b/c I'm in rural Georgia) but it will be the backyard... Backyards are supposed to be tacky!

Have 3 dish 500's w/ single LNB adapters going to a DPP44.
 
You can use as many dishes as the locals will tolerate having to look at. The frequency and polarization of all the DISH Network satellites are similar (except for 118.75).

If I were in your position, I'd give serious consideration to trying the Dish 300 for 77W and a Dish 500 for 61.5W and 72.5W. The LNB spacing probably isn't optimal, but I'd give it a shot it anyway.
 
if rain fade is an issue, it's going to be a bigger issue if you was running a EA setup as the sats arent as powerful as the west so those(72/77/61.5) so they drop much faster, but if your hell bent on flipping arc's a dish 500 can be aimed @ 72/61 ..if your 110/119 isnt in the 60's-80's on most transponders then thats ya problem right there
 
Simple solution: IF YOUR LOCALS ARE NOT ON SAT 77.
AND must have mpeg4 hi def receivers. If you can purchase a western arc (1000.2) turbo dish with DPP LNB
(Try ebay or one of the sponsors on this sight). This dish is larger than a Dish500 and will give about 10-15 points better reception.
You can even use your existing mounting arm and foot plate.
Adjust skew on 1000.2 dish by removing 2 of the 4 bolts on the skew assembly.
Rotate reflector to proper skew angle (i.e. 74), check settings as per dishpointer.
Raise azimuth angle to proper level.
Place foil over outer (EASTERN MOST) LNB
Aim center LNB at 61.5.
Western most Outer LNB will find 72 if all is skewed and aligned correctly.
Forget about tuning in 77, you most likely will not need it if locals are on 61.5.
Tweak your Dish Turbo 1000.2 for the 2 sats, 61.5 and 72.
Tighten all bolts including skew dial.
Your in business and should receive signals from high 40s to low 60s on 61.5 and 50-60s on 72.
You can tie in a Dish300 to bring in sat 77 if you decide later you need it.
Tweaking 1000.2 for 2 sats is much simpler than tweaking a 1000.4 and no arm braces are needed.

Not a theory...it's a fact.
I had a Dish 1000.2 lying around and thought I would try it. The LNB spacing is close enough (Only 1 degree off) and since the sat 77 is not needed for locals it worked great. Reception strength is good, as noted, and the 1000.2 dish is much easier to install than the eastern arc 1000.4.
All these guys complaining about poor reception on western arc 129 with a 1000.2 dish can just simply follow above instructions and swing it over to eastern arc if sat 77 is not required.
Examples:
sat 61 tp 27 strength = 53
sat 61 tp 15 (spotbeam) strength = 85
sat 72 tp29 strength = 50
sat 72 tp 22 strength = 57 :)

I've always been curious to see if an old Dish300 would work on 72 or 77 with the short spacing on those two satellites. I suspect it would work for 72 but the bleed over from 72 might drown out 77.
 
When I got my EA transition, they hadn't gotten any 1000.4's in my area yet, so they just swung my 110/119 dish over to 72.7...I now have 61.5 and 72.7 (no 77), which isn't an issue right now as there's nothing on 77 for my market.

I was going to call back and try for a 1000.4, but I get very solid signals on both 61.5 and 72.7 with dedicated dishes - seems to be about 10 points higher than a lot of people are reporting with 1000.4's. So unless anything goes to 77 that I need, I'm happy with this solution. Wouldn't add another dish for 77...3 dishes would be too many for me.

That works too, but if I were you I would get the dish 1000.2 or .4 as you are owed. You do not necessarily have to install it, but you can use it later if needed.:eek:
 
This is something I'm curious about. I have the Dish 500 with the Dual LNB for 110/119. I want to get 61.5 ad 72.7 at my next tailgate since I've read it can be done.

So are you suggesting swapping out the 500 pan for the 1000.4 and use the same Dual LNB? It will all fit?
 
Yes, dish500 can pick up 61.5 and 72 sats, but only with receivers that are mpeg4 (211 or 722, etc.)
No, lnbs will not fit 1000.4 arm, must have triple lnb DPP and NO for eastern sat reception unless receivers are mpeg4 (211 or 722, etc.)

The real rain fade issue is the low look angles at his location compared to the EA. The 129 bird is 29 degrees! No wonder he has rain fade issues! The best look angle he has is for 110 at 42.2 degrees while the lowest EA look angle he will have 42.8 at 61.5 which will be plenty powerful O/A this summer with the new bird.
