Hi,

I had a problem last week and it turned out to be a bad DPP. While there the tech told me that I should be able to get the eastern arc Sats and would only need one dish. He stated that I would get more channels for free and less rain fade out because the one dish is bigger that either one of my other two dishes. He also believed that Dish would install it free of charge.
I live in central Fl east of Orlando. Anyone heard of this?

The Eastern Arc rocks if you can get the upgrade,MPEG4 HD and SD

expect 24 month commitment,$95 min upgrade fee if no protection plan or min $15 with protection plan,equipment cost varies 922,722 etc..


I started out with Dish on the eastern arc with a VIP 211K,added the USB2.0 external hard drive and paid the one time $40 activation fee to get the HD DVR :)

2 sentences in this statement are true
1) You will get more HD channels
2) It is bigger than your other 2 dishes.

As far as less rain fade, I wouldn't say this sentence is all that true. I install these and in my area, the best signal on for example 72.7 is about 50 to 53. This compared to 110 or 119 that here gets about 75 to 80. The 1000.4 in my opinion is a dish that should have been perfected BEFORE it was released! I hear more complaining from my customers about rain fade with the 1000.4. Just my opinion though, some might like it. It is nice to have one dish on your house instead of 2 I guess, but if it causes more problems, ???

I could not agree more. I was able to increase my signal by 8-10 points by using 2 Dish 300's on 61.5 and 72 in place of the 1000.4.
 
Most of the signal problems people have with the 1000.4 sat dish are installation problems. You have to be able to aim and peak the dish correctly. There is the azimuth cam you have to adjust to get the right sweet spot between 72.7 and 77 sats with a wrench , to get maximum signal on both sats. Then there is the elevation rod you can adjust to peak the dish even more. This dish is not as easy to peak as the 1000.2 dish ,where you basically point and aim and get a signal and you are through. The 1000.4 dish took me hours to get it just right . I had to adjust the azimuth cam to the left and go in the house and check the signal on both sats, run back outside , adjust etc till I got it just right. But in the end through trial and error , I got good signals in the 60s on 72.7 , between 45 - 70 on 61.5 and between 45 - 50 on 77 sat. I have kept these signal strengths for two years now since I first installed it.

I should have stated I have a 622 but forgot. I don't care about 1 VS 2 dishes. What peaked my interest was the extra HD channels and less rain fade. There are many of the HD channels that I never watch so this is probably not a concern.

For now, I believe the best approach is to leave well enough alone and enjoy what I have.

You do know EA has low signal due to the 8PSK modulation used. Doesn't mean lower signal. Remember the scale on the receiver isn't a straight signal strength screen. On the western arc 110 and 119 use QPSK thats why they are in the 70s, but 129 is 8PSK thats why it's signal is in the 50-60s. So 129 is comparable to EA in numbers due to 8PSK used.

Things must be different in Texas.:) Here in Wisconsin, there is no way to get the signal levels you speak of! Maybe on a good day, 56 on 72.7, but NEVER in the 60's. Come on up for the Packers/Cowboys game and I'll let you tune one and see how you do.:D
