Extra coax?

My 1000.4 installer ran 2 coaxes from 72.7 and 61.5. Then he connected only the 72.7 port to the receiver.

Is it that the coax to the 72.7 port also contained a external ground wire, which he connected?

With the 1000.4 you should have 77 72.7 and 61.5. There should be a switch around the dish where they are all connected. That way only 1 wire has to be fed into the house.

The two lines he ran from the dish are normal. This is in case you want to add another receiver , it is all set up Techs run a dual cable with messenger, (that little black wire). That should be attached to the mast on one end by the dish and the other end should be connected to the ground block, essentially grounding the dish. With a 1000.4 dish there are three outputs and one LNB in on the LNB. It doesn't matter which output is used, the switch is built into the LNB and the switch knows which sat to pick up.

With a 1000.4 you don't need a switch unless you are connecting more than three receivers

IOW each of your coax carries all 3 satellite signals. You might have 2 coax into a receiver because it is a dual tuner receiver. Or you could have a single coax to there, feeding a separator, which then sends two coax into the box.
