Last night (and when I checked again this morning) I noticed that the Eastern Arc version of the Flex Pack slate channel is only showing a plain white Dish logo on a black background. The Western Arc version of this channel still shows the logos of the Flex Pack channels. The Channel Packs slate channel still works on both arcs.

So, is this the first real sign that Dish is actually phasing out Flex Pack, or is this just a technical glitch?

I see the same, WA still has the lineup EA does not. Both however still have the 9606 showing the available packs.

That makes sense to me since the Channel Packs are available as add-ons for more packages than just the Flex Pack. Dish could even expand the availability of the Channel Packs, making them available to Welcome Pack and Smart Pack subscribers, or allow customers to build their own package with just the Channel Packs, without requiring a base package at all. Or, Dish could be getting ready to introduce a new base package to replace Flex Pack, but otherwise the system will work exactly as it currently does. Until we hear something official from Dish, we just don't know.

They still mention Flex Pack on the recording when you're on hold with a telephone CSR. I hope they don't get rid of it. I love it.

I'm assuming that if it does disappear, those who are grandfathered will still be able to add and drop channel packs, right?

Nobody knows until it actually happens. I wouldn't count on being able to make any changes to a grandfathered package, though. Just my opinion.

I am not sure exactly when it happened, but sometime over the weekend this problem was fixed.

People will be able to keep, but for how long, no one knows. Remember Absolute HD ? If you had it, you were able to keep for a year (??) or longer (??) after it went away for subscribing to but eventually, customers had to switch to something else. If you tried to just ignore Dish and think you were going to quietly keep it, nope.... You automatically were switched to one of the Dish America (silver/gold/platinum) packages.

IIRC, they switched us to AT200 or the name equivalent at the time at the same price point for 1 year then we were charged the full AT200 price.

I dropped to AT120 but am now back at AT200 with annually renewed discounts - I have to ask for them each year.

If they do indeed stop offering the FlexPack, I wonder what they will do with the old "MTV Digital Suite" channels that they added in the 360's. I can't remember all their names as they change every year. They are only available in the FlexPack and are not offered in any of the add on packages. I have no idea why those channels and BBC World are not in AT250, but go figure.

I went to the website just now and just tried to downgrade to smart pack just to test it, and they were going to let me keep dish latino pack. I am still keeping flex pack, but I did notice earlier today dish said they were doing some work on the site to so certain areas of dish was not available to me.
hmm so I guess if you do have smart pack they will allow you to only use smart pack and latino pack and you can still keep the heartland pack. but you cant keep the variety pack, it automatically removed that pack. and of course they will allow you to add locals if you want that package. :)

hmm I was just curious.

Yes, there is at least one member on here who complains about the fact that Smart Pack qualifies for Latino Bonus Pack, but Welcome Pack does not qualify for it. Other than that, the Channel Packs that existed before Flex Pack was introduced (Heartland and Outdoor) are still available for both Smart Pack and Welcome Pack. The locals are an option for Smart Pack, but with Welcome Pack you don't have a choice: you have to take the locals. The rest of the Channel Packs are not available for either package as far as I know. So, basically the Smart Pack has the same options as Welcome Pack except that Smart Pack subscribers can get Latino Bonus Pack instead of (or in addition to) the locals.

Hi. My name is Mojo Jojo. I am the "one member on here who complains about the fact that Smart Pack qualifies for Latino Bonus Pack, but Welcome Pack does not qualify for it." Also, the International Packages qualify for it, too.

Hi, Mojo Jojo. I knew your name, but I wasn't sure if you wanted me to call you out by name. Also, I am pretty sure that some other members agreed with you (including myself) so I left my comment open to include them, too. :)
