Happy Birthday Hopper 3

I'm beginning to think there won't be another new Hopper unless they come up with some new tech that everyone has to have and no one else does. Should of been a new Hopper 4 in 2018 if they stayed on track from previous. Hopper 1 in 2012 and Hopper 2 was in 2014 and Hopper 3 was in 2016. Once you can record up to 16 things at a time, what's really left? Besides DISH needs to concentrate on eliminating some of the fees that are making people leave in large numbers. Those fees added to the ever increasing programming costs will continue to make DISH Bleed subs. But Directv is just as bad with subs leaving their service and their Directv Now service too ,since they hiked all their prices and did away with any promos for new subs. Find a way to keep subs and discourage churn and that would be as cool a trick as a new Hopper 4.

Yep, I hear ya. I hope Charlie does something to keep customers. That would be far more important than a new Hopper. I don't know how he can do better than the Hopper 3. Oh, by the way Hopper 2 (HWS) came out 2013.

I really don't know what a hopper 4 would be or why they would come out with one. The Hopper 3 beats every other DVR by any provider in any category, number of shows you can record at once, storage space, and ease of use. I am not saying the H3 is perfect but it is miles beyond the hideousness of Spectrum or Uverse DVRs. Direct Genies aren't bad but they do not compare to the H3. The sad part is the other folks have now had 3 years to catch up and not one is even close.

Yep, Hopper 3 is awesome. I wonder why no one else has tried to match the Hopper 3!

What Dish needs to do is design a Joey4 that does 4K and HDR. The current 4K Joey does not do HDR. This was a problem for Dish when the Olympics would not work on the 4K Joey. A new Joey4 could also do PIP.

Be nice to upgrade the Wireless Joey too.

My Hopper 3 is coming up on three years as well. February 1st, 2016:

i love my hopper 3 as well. we have 2 of them. I wish dish would focus on picture quality and make it much better and that would keep people on board. Take advantage of added capacity by getting rid of all SD except for channels that are not broadcast in HD.. 2019 No excuse to not have TV land in HD. If they would up the bitrate it would make the channels sharper and less blocky. Just my 2 cents..

My suggestion for the Hopper family (maybe an H3+) is probably software related, but Dish should bundle similar channels on a TP just like locals and record 4-8 of them at the same time on one sat tuner, , the user can pick which ones he wants to watch and if one is not subbed, it is not available, but still there, lasting about 1 week but with a 4 TB HDD to carry the extra data volume.

My DISH TV Wishes:
Make H3 smaller, 4KJ size.
Make 4KJ HDR & PIP/MultiView Capable
SD...RU Kidding Me? HD & Above Only, More 4K Content
Lighted Remote with customizable light settings or An On/Off Button
Extend Guide To at Least 2 or More Weeks & Allow to go back at least an hour or more after a program is over
HBO/Cinemax...Tear Down The Wall!

The Hopper is what brought me back to Dish a few years ago. I tried a Tivo Bolt and it did not hold a candle to the Hopper. Dish Anywhere is still the best TV Anywhere product I've seen.

For future features I'd love to see an IP-based Hopper like the service DirecTV recently announced. I'd also love to see Dolby Atmos and DTS-X sound compatibility added. And of course, addition of new apps like Prime Video.
