HDMI Connection - Dish install

When my Dish 622 was installed last week I had bought a HDMI cable in advance. When the installer was hooking up the receiver I told him I had the HDMI cable and he said he did not need it, he had cables. I did not realise until after he left that he connected the 622 to the TV via an S video and componant cables. I contacted Dish tech and they said the HDMI cables should have been used and that I could disconnect the S video and componant cable and hook up th HDMI cable. I did and no sound or video. I called Dish tech back and he reset the receiver, but still does not work. His only thought was that it was a defective HDMI cable or the the wrong settings on my Sonny HD TV. The cable is new. What setting on the TV would effect this.

Also, on my local channels through Dish I notice a lot of shows out of sync with the voice.

WE just got an update from Dish about this issue..There is a software issue wiht 622's right now. The HDMI cable will not deliver aud or vid from the HD channels..Dish is working on this..
here's the text...
HD Audio/Video
If you encounter audio or video issues in the field that are specific to certain channels, but not impacting all of the programming, please email (dedacted)so that we can research issues that may be related to these channels. In the email please include the specific channels and receivers that the issues occur on (i.e. Model 622 has intermittent audio loss on all HD channels). Technicians should not RA receivers exhibiting intermittent audio or video issues if they are happening only on specific channels.
Hope this helps..

BTW the tech should have used the HDMI cable you provided..Why not...

Dish has been feeding this "SW update" line since the HDMI problems were first reported almost a year ago! In most cases it's bullsh*t! There are indeed a few reported problems with certain TV models that were due to a "handshake" incompatibility and a SW fix is the solution for those (not sure if that problem was ever resolved). But most HDMI problems on all the E* receivers are traceable to a poor/broken solder connection(s) from the HDMI socket to the PCB, due in most part to a poor mechanical design that allows forces on the HDMI plug/socket to be transferred to the solder connections eventually breaking them. Dish even admitted to the poor design without giving details in a Technical Chat session last Sept. Search this forum for a number of posts on this subject. Don't wait for a "SW update". Call them back (go directly to Technical Support, not through a CSR) and demand a replacement...

Exactly. Always best to connect both the component (red, blue, green) and composite (red, white) to one HD input channel, and the HDMI to its HD channel input (if HDMI is available in the warehouse at that time).

That way the Customer can fall back on his component/composite HD input channel if his HDMI cable fails.

I had my 211 installed last week and had ordered an HDMI to DVI cable figuring I would need it from the readings here. The installer had the HDMI/HDMI cable but took it with him because my TV input was DVI. So he connected thru componet and the optical audio. All worked well. The new cable showed up a couple days later and I installed it and left the componets connected. The PQ thru the digital is better. My wife is a color specialist in the printing industry and she say's the colors are more vivid/richer thru the digital. To me the pic just looks a little sharper. So far all is working well.
