my 5-year-old hopper 3 is having a lot of issues, so i have a replacement on the way.

is there a tutorial on how to do this swap anywhere? or faq?

if not, any advice would be appreciated. i'm a novice.

a few starter questions:

tools>technician settings:
(backup and restore settings and timers)
how well do they work? what all transfers? guide lists too? this is done just using the remotes? or ethernet cable?

i already have a lot of recordings on a few EHDs.
i assume they will work with my new hopper 3.
restore recordings tool (using ethernet cable) vs using an external hard drive:
which is preferred? which works best? should i move everything to an external hard drive-then to new hopper?

joeys work fine?

approximately how long does it all take start to finish?

anything else i should know?

thanks in advance for your help.

Restoring recordings via Ethernet cable will not work. There's a software glitch that's preventing it. Otherwise, just follow the promps. Plug it in, pair the remote and let it go. It'll have to d/l the newest software so the whole thing is about 45 minutes.

When you're done, go to you Joeys, hit Home until you get to the Diagnostics screen, then number 4 (Whole Home), click on the Hopper and then click to Link.

Hello! You can go to MyDISH for easy-to-follow steps on how you can replace your Hopper 3. Step 17 will also give you a link where you can find out how to transfer your recordings from your external hard drive to your new Hopper 3. The setup process can take anywhere from 15-20 minutes, but the length of time it takes for your recordings to transfer will depend on how many recordings you have. If you run into any issues, don't hesitate to contact us through Facebook or Twitter (Facebook Messenger at Log into Facebook, on Twitter @DISH_answers). You may also visit MyDISH to start a live chat with a Customer Service Representative.

They said the next tech would be out January 4th.

Swap from 2 HWSes and an owned Joey 1 to a H3 and owned Joey 3 has not been smooth. Dish CSR refused to make the J3 owned- may give me a $50 credit. Then told me I could still activate and deactivate the now leased J3 at will, and save a few bucks- no need to return it. Methinks that is not correct, unless Dish policy has changed.

Further, some channels are missing. There are no channel icons in the guide, now six days later. Some DVR icons are missing.

Stupid question, are you on the latest software update? My owned second H3, that I purchased previously loved from a Sat Guy member, took a bit to get on track and didn't really settle in until it took the next software update. Soo glad I traded my (not owned) 4KJ to a second H3. Still have a 4KJ in my kitchen/dining room. Works okay for there, but remote reception is not that good from the dining table across the room. Have to hold the remote out in the direction of the TV to change channels, etc. Hope you get it sorted out soon.

I have this problem with my 54 remotes. The IR part seems to be much weaker than my old UHF Pro 6.3's were.

My problem is with the 40 remote. To be fair, the distance from the dining table to the 4KJ mounted to the back of the 32 inch flat screen television sitting on the kitchen counter is 18 to 20 feet depending on which side of the dining table you are sitting on. Probably not fair, but an external antenna option would probably help. It is only casual viewing while eating mostly. The room is completely open. The cooking/prep area/sink work triangle is between the TV and dining room table and of course there are no problems with the remotes while cooking/prepping or washing dishes.
