Hopper news updates

I just called Dish and customer service had no knowledge of the upgrade, and I think he stated to call back again sometime. Hard to tell with the heavy accent. Is there any state side customer service for Dish?

How do I find a retailer in Fort Wayne, IN? I tried yellow pages and inernet seach and all hits have the Dish phone number.

Not available anywhere until the 15th. Use the "Find a Retailer" link on the dish.com website. Numerous Retailers in your area.

.... I was going to use Dish directly but since I have seen some rumors here that Dish isn't going to have installs till april I was thinking taking a chance with a local person. Which I would rather do…

My wife is so ticked at me at the moment since I canceled DirecTV - but due to line of sight issues D* scracthed my ETF so I figured don't kick a gift horse in the mouth :)

I believe Dish isn't SELLING a particular piece of equipment until April, not that they're not doing installs until April. And actually, I wouldn't be too sure about holding off selling that gear, either. We'll know in two (or 3!) days.

Not sure I follow…. are you "saying" the current software/hardware isn't fully baked yet?

If I don't get the hooper now I'll be going back to cable with its 25HR of HD max recording :-(

If hopper and joey are sharing a tuner, is trick play independent between the two?

I haven't tried it yet but I would think it works the same as 2 TVs being mirrored off of TV2 of a 722.

Good grief I sure hope you're wrong about that! If I were engineering this system, I would make the trick play on the tuner's buffer (for each Joey) just exactly like it is for a recording. In other words, each Joey has it's own video stream generated by the Hopper using an independent pointer into the buffer (or recorded program). In that way, trick play is independent on each Joey, even if they are all watching the same tuner (or same recorded program).

Each tuner is a stream that any joey can access off the hopper.. when bed room one is watching Breaking bad any other joey can join in and pause it but it will also pause in bed room one same with FF and any other part .

If you have more then 2 tv's and more then two people your going to be sorry for not getting the extra hopper for low upfront cost and only $7 month .

IIRC the post said Dish would lease as of 3/15 but not sell until 4/1. But dealers can sell immediately. Go ahead and order. I'm sure there'll be a few bumps in the road, but my guess is, not too bad.

I'm headed to a dealer today, who claims to have all equipment in stock. Will report back success in getting an install date. just 1H/1J so it 'should' not be a problem.

I would think that what you propose would be possible if not for the fact that any of the viewers sharing a tuner could change the channel at any time, thus terminating the channel buffer.

Well, yeah, but that action would cause the shared viewer to change the channel as well, regardless of independent viewing or not.

I disagree with that statement. As long as there are viewers tuned to that tuner, the buffer should not be terminated. The exiting viewer should simply get his buffer pointer moved over to a new tuner buffer.

Yes, whether or not the exiting viewer was the one that initiated the tuner's buffer. The tuner is still in use on the buffered channel (albeit by a different outlet), so its buffer should remain intact and continue to fill until all outlets are no longer viewing that channel's buffer. That should have been how the software operates...Dish didn't see it that way, apparently.

Just got back, dealer says can not accept orders until tomorrow. He said if I call in the morning, he should be able to schedule me as early as this Friday or Saturday.
Very professional, made sure I understood how the system works, and itemized the monthly costs after the $99 install. So far so good, shall see what happens tomorrow.
He also claimed, in his experience of 10+ years, this is the first time Dish has been ready with equipment deliveries. When the 722 first came out, they ran out of stock in a very short time. Well, what do I know, just hope this works out.

Went to locate retailer on dish site, looked up a retailer, called the second one and he said they have H&J in stock including Duo nodes. He scheduled me for a Friday afternoon install but won't be able to put the order in until tomorrow. But I'm on the calendar. May even be able to come out tomorrow afternoon if an installer frees up.

That's great news! Maybe these retailers are getting on the ball. And maybe Dish is providing the goods.

Got on the phone early this morning and am all set for upgrade with an install Monday, Very exciting!Only issue is when I was working with Dish customer service they stated I couldn't hook Hopper up to my lone remaining SD TV. I had to school him on the Joey output for SD. Luckily I did my homework up front on this site!!! Hopefully the reps don't loose upgrades for lack of knowledge of their new product!
