From this link we find that intel most likely will not be partnering with Dish on its new TV service and probably won't be seeing any "intel inside" sticker on the hoppah, http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/thr-esq/dish-networks-255-billion-sprint-448315 How smart is the Hoppah? What processor does it use? If you plug in a USB mouse will it move the cursor around the screen? Looks like Microsoft with their new TV initiative might make the best partner for Dish. Anybody tried plugging in the Kinect to the hopper? With Microsoft's new ITV interactive programming was just wondering if the Hopah was ready to work with a way to interact with the new programming? [moving the cursor that appears on the guide around the screen] In the link above the mention of the new antennas, what kind of distance will they be good for using the Dish/Sprint spectrum?

The Hopper could support those things if they wanted to, but for now they don't want to so there are no drivers for devices other then the ones they let you use.

They don't want to get support calls for someone plugging in their Xbox kinect and being upset it does not work. (And that goes for any USB device.)

With no drivers then it won't work.

The Hopper is running a Broadcom CPU and no other dvr on the market currently is as fast as the Hopper with Sling.

If Charlie is smart, he will let us access YouTube from the Hopper. It is just easier than having to turn on my Blu-Ray Player. . . what's the big deal, Charlie? BTW, Directv does allow You Tube access on their receivers.

If Charlie was smart he would open an App Store and let us choose which apps we want to run on the Hopper.

If I want Netflix I should be able to add it, if I want TuneIn Radio I should be able to add it...

Imagine the possibilities!

I dont think Charlie would want any competing alternative services offered on their Hoppers. I think offering many apps on the receiver would be a great idea. A lot of possibilities there. Perhaps make it to where you can have apps run in the foreground like interactive weather alerts on the bottom, news scrolls while your watching tv, certain features running in the corner.

If Charlie made a deal with Netflix for a piece of the profit then that could be huge for both companies.

.............

That would be a huge step forward in my opinion, excellent idea. As for competing alternative services, one way to combat directly competing is to allow Apps or certain Apps only at certain level packages, much like tiers or put them in add on packages. For instance get HBO and you can add the VUDU APP. Get Top250 and add most any App.

I'll set up an appointment so we can meet with Charlie about this.

While talking to Charlie, tell him I want a full web browser built in with wireless keyboard and trackball please. After all we are in the era of the merging of television and computers.

I'd love that!

Well then, how about Dish and Roku hooking up. That would allow customers to access many of the alternatives everyone has mentioned here. Dish was giving away Roku's, so why not see if Roku would allow their device to be hooked to Dish's receivers. Dish could work out a deal to even sell Roku's on their site.

It would benefit Dish, Roku and us.

i could've sworn i saw this being tested somewhere....... wasn't there a demonstration when the hopper was 1st announced, showing someone surfing on the internet?

It should have already been included with the Hoppah, Somebody needs to light a fire under the programmers or hire some new top notch ones. The time is nigh. A simple 5 dollar blutooth dongle and a 25 dollar wireless keyboard and trackball and we could do it ourselves if the programmers/managment was on the ball, Dish must stay on the cutting edge or the competition will soon have options for us to consider. I could save some money (as well as most families) by not having to purchase a computer for every adult and child in my home if a browser was included in the STB. That would be a big selling point for me. This is the era of computers and televisions to merge. We shall see who gets us there first.

Charlie got poker face?

IF Dish was to include a full web browser on its system (hoppah and joey's) would Dish be able to get a cut of the profits the traffic routed thru it would generate or would it have to be a Dish app that was used to make a purchase? With online gaming starting to be legalized in states now there is a huge revenue source right there if Dish customers have access to it. Where is the Dish App to allow an online bet on the ponies that have 2 channels dedicated to it?

kangaroo family succumbs to heat exhaustion

IF Dish allows open web browsing on the Hoppah and joeys will they be able to keep up with 4 household members surfing at the same time? Gonna need some storage space also for the downloads.
