I bought a used HTL-HD on eBay, and the 4 digit code is set, but the previous owner doesn't know what that code is. He send me a code to try, but it didn't work. So far, it's not been a problem, but I would like to turn it off. I've tried obvious codes like 0000, 1234, 9999, etc., but no luck. Any suggestions?

This is from the troubleshooting section in the HTL-HD manual:

You forget your password.

-If you subscribe to satellite service, contact your service provider to
arrange for the password to be re-set

-If you do not subscribe to satellite service and the DIRECTV HD Receiver
is in the ANT/CABLE mode, enter the master password “7777”.

Thank you. I didn't see that in the manual

It took me a few minutes to figure out how to put the receiver in ANT/CABLE mode, and once I did that, I was able to clear the password.
