I just got DirecTV satellite. What should I expect?

I just joined here a couple of days ago and I love the service offered to me.

How can I make the most out of my service with them?

A few suggestions:
- Set a favorites list in your guide
- Press record twice to record the series
- Download the DirecTV app

Not too much specific to suggest unless you have questions. Most of all, enjoy your TV

For context, I got a Genie 2, with 3 Geminis, and one wired Genie mini (c61) and I'm enthralled with the picture quality.

The question I have is, should I ask them for discounts or promos I can take advantage of ...

I have an 8-digit account number so it should be interesting.

you can expect price hikes every year!!! you can expect one hand not knowing what the other one is doing. you can expect system changes being made to your acct with out you knowing about it. that's been ours anyways but they will scream it's a software glitch. you can expect to call up and try to get discounts every two years.

Do you already own older receivers that your account at one time had them activated on? If yes...maybe. If not...you probably can't get the older receivers from DIRECTV and not sure you could gets ones from a 3rd party activated. I don't know of a specific policy DIRECTV has about downgrading equipment.

No, this is a totally brand-new account (luckily 8-digit, not nine-digit).

By which I mean, the PQ i get from DirecTV looks good; however, I would like to use older equipment since I'm fascinated by older technology.

good luck with that one you'll have to buy an older box if you want one and if you have the genie 2 good luck that's a client only system so HD boxes and regular DVR'S are a no go for your setup, it can be done with a regular genie but who knows if they will activate em!!! and if there's money owed on em or there leased boxes they won't activate em unless you pay the bill!!! and that would give you another 2 year contract!!

if your enthralled by the picture quality why do you want to use outdated boxes hardware. why invest in space junk when the service is dying?

a 1 TB HDD only being able to record 5 shows at once and stream one 4K show at once and not two 4k shows. a downgrade will extend your contract if they will let you do it i doubt they will..
