I know this was probably answered before, but I could not find the previous post. I am installing a 622 Wednesday evening and will be storing it on the edge. I assume this will not pose a problem.
Secondly, I have two dishes receiveing three satellites... I will have three boxes... two 622's and one 322. The installer told me I could do this with a DP44 switch and use one coax cable to each box.... I ordered a new DP44 switch and it is supposed to be installed on this weekend.... does this sound correct to you?
Thanks, Howard

Thats correct... two questions... standing the 622 on its side... and the other question feeding three satellites to 3 dual boxes with one cable run to each box.
The boxes would be 2 each VIP 622 and 1 each 322.

If I recall correctly the 622 has its fan for air circulation on one of the sides. Make sure that you don't block that side as then your 622 will be very liable to overheat. Still not sure if it would be a good idea even if you don't block off the fan but if you have no other option make sure that you do that.

I would recommend that if you mount the 622 on its side, have the left side up and have at least 1 inch of space below that left side to allow air to enter and exit the right side at the top.

The fan is on the right side as you look into the front of the 622, and the power supply is on the left along with the preponderence of vent slots. So make sure that fan is not blocked for sure. The power supply does create a fair amount of heat, so putting it at the top is not a bad idea. Unfortunately there are other heat generators in there, notably the HDD and the large Broadcom chips, especially the decoder (the biggest one in there) which I have personally measured running as high as 170 deg. F with the cover on and the fan not blowing.

You might want to add some forced air cooling. I'd place a bank of 3 low-noise fans on what will now be the top surface (what was the left side) sucking air out of the case. If you get 5 volt fans, you can connect them in parallel and run them off either of the USB ports that will likely be unused otherwise. Give them an on/off switch as well...

Re: the switch, As garys mentioned, yes you can do what you're planning as long as you use a separator at each receiver to feed the single cable coming to it to both sat. inputs. It's actually a DPP44 switch (DishProPlus) which is the technology needed for what you're trying to do. A DishPro (DP) switch like the DP34 can't do this...
