Interesting Report from JohnH!

Sweet....

Let's hope it's there because of an actuall agreement and not just some testing...

JohnH is also reporting that all the VOOM Channels (The same ones which are are 61.5) are now on 129 as well. (To me thats a waste of bandwidth)

not all of them, only 5.

9470 RAVE ADDED TO Tp 9 ConUS beam on EchoStar 5 at 129w

9478 ULTRA ADDED TO Tp 10 ConUS beam on EchoStar 5 at 129w

9479 GUYTV ADDED TO Tp 9 ConUS beam on EchoStar 5 at 129w

9481 MNSTR ADDED TO Tp 10 ConUS beam on EchoStar 5 at 129w

9482 HDNWS ADDED TO Tp 9 ConUS beam on EchoStar 5 at 129w

i disagree on the waste of bandwidth... I can barely get 61.5 where I am and it is crap signal... 129 will likely be much better for me... ;) Im sure I wont be the only one in that boat... Rainbow-1 isnt that decent of a conus satellite i find regardless of how new it is etc... It is trying to do too much hence no power for doubled up conus transponders etc. if they boosted the power on it some it would be helpful! While I cant say that voom is exactly worth the 5$ i pay for it most days, I still like knowing that I have more HD than just whats on 110 and CBS-HD. I so cant wait to see NBS, ABC, PBS, and most importantly FOX in HD!!! :) I wish dish would hurry the heck up on that and put it in places that all of us can get! :)

Agree...I can't get 61.5 at all so 129 will give me an option of being able to get the V* programming. "Waste of bandwidth"? Not for many of us on the West coast.

PS - On second thought Scott may have a point. Take all of the V* programming off 61.5 and leave at 129. No more wasted bandwidth, problem solved. ;)

Then what happens to the Rainbow 1 satellite at 61.5 if they move off the Voom channels to the 129 slot? I assume they will move off the other hd channels at 61.5 as well , like Cbs( hd east/west coast ), since they want to move hd to 129. I wonder if the 129 slot will be used for all hd and they can move all hd off of the 110 sat as well? Maybe this will make room for the split locals consolidated on the 110 /119 slots?

Any ideas out there?

What about the people who want both HD (which under your plan is on 129) and their locals which in many cases are on 105 or 121? Either E* needs to come up with a UltraSuperDish2000, or HD needs to stay on 110 or 119. I don't know why Voom is being put on 129, but I think it's only temporary.

Maybe I'm reading it wrong, but presumably the room that is freed up by the move of HD to the 129 slot FROM the 110 slot will be used by the locals using the 105 and 121. Thus, making newer Superdish installs a thing of the past...or at least a less often occurence?

Isn't 61.5 difficult to receive on the West Coast?

I just know that 148 is almost impossible in VA.

Wouldn't it make sense to put the VOOM channels on 129 for those on the West Coast and keep them on 61.5 for those on the East Coast, where the elevation is low for 129?

They dont have enough 8psk transponders at 129 currently to handle moving all the 61.5 voom chans, plus cbs-hd.

The 5 voom chansare definately there though. Of course, there were HD channels on the 105 satellite about 2 years ago as well, and we all know how well that worked out!! :tombstone

edit cuz bfg reminded me I'm a dumbass :)

Sure they do. All they need is five TPs and they ARE there.

Not everything has been added to the public tables. There is a good thread at DBSTalk with more details of what is hot and what is not.

Shoot my bad, I forgot they crammed the 10 voom chans onto 4 transponders. So future voom subs will get a d1000 instead of the 61.5 install. I'm assuming all of those that fronted the $$ for the 61.5 dish will get a free d1000 install when they finally move voom off 61.5? I know I'm talking months ahead here, but still.

The interesting thing is lack of mpeg4. And charlies comment about not caring about short term HD customer churn. Why all this effort to move the vooms around and NFL HD. Oh well, at least its more interesting than the last few weeks. Keep up the good work charlie ;)

see, it just takes one little thing to get the "charlie is teh deVUL1!!!!" talk turned into "wow, thanks chuck"...

Let's all just calm down, it's going to be a very up and down 6 months...Like these new mpeg-4 receivers won't be problem-filled, like mpeg-4 won't get pixelated reception problems, etc...

When Charlie says he's going to do something, it's a lie.
When Charlie says he isn't going to do something, it's a lie.
I hear that he's a pretty good poker player.

That's not a bad thing. While other sites always kiss the butt's of the Satellite Companies we just call it as we see it. We post negative when we see them doing that we think is bad and we offer them praise when they do something good.

In this case they deserve praise.

It's called just being honest for the benefit of everyone. :)

129 in the northeast - youve got to be kidding!
