Be careful using that logic. You just said "big deal 2300 sons and daughters aren't coming home". I doubt you would make the same comparison about the 2900 lost on September 11. I find it disturbing how you can nonchalantly say "...lose even more its still a great victory".

Well stated.:up

True-it's a long time until November, but Bush has to get very smart in the meantime.

How about getting some good reporters to go in as "imbeds" like in the beginning of the war? You always get good honest reporting then because they are living the war and seeing it through the eyes of the guys there.

I also think we need to go on the offensive more often like we did recently north of Baghdad. This forces the media to report on what you ARE doing rather than sit around and make things up.

http://www.crooksandliars.com/2006/03/26.html#a7669

Please actually view the video of Lara Logan speaking about reporting from Iraq. She said they used to be able to drive to places outside of Baghdad, but now they need military escorts and use helocoptors.

I guess the 80 or so journalists that have been killed over there were just sitting around the pool sipping their liberal koolaid when they died huh?

On a serious note: Hokie you are dead right. 1 death is 1 too many and car wrecks and war deaths are like comparing apples to oranges. A car you can controll, A president playing war mongual you cant controll. Personally I also to think that americans are so tired of pres bush that dems will also easly win.

2300 people have died in the War over 3 years. Big deal. In 2004 we lost over 38,000 Americans in automobile accidents. In war people die. As wars go this casualty rate is nothing. I find it amazing how people sign up for all of the perks of military life, free education, home loans with nothing down, health care, retirement etc, then everyone whines when theres actually a war? Guess what? The job of the military is to fight and sometimes people die. If you are not willing to risk that then dont sign up thinking its a free ride.

As far as 9/11 goes that happened before the Iraq War. It was an unprovoked terrorist attack on this country.

I am not so sure, the Republican machine is much more capable of winning based on prior campaigns. The Dems have yet to catch on concerning how the game is being played.

Since terrorism is a war, the 3000 people that died on 911 were casualties of war right? ....so that is nothing?? Is that considered collateral damage?

I am not trying to put words in your mouth, but I am having problems comprehending that statement.

yes you are. 9/11 happened before the war in Iraq. It was an unprovoked terrorist attack against this country. A more truthful statement would be the 9/11 was the direct result of NOT declaring war on terrorism.

Don't forget this is the first prolonged war we've faught in a while. Modern medicine has decreased the casuality rate. Over 17,000 have been wounded. If you are looking for vietnam era figures to declare the war a failure, you aren't going to find them. I would have thought we learned something back then, but I guess our questionable past National Guard hero president wasn't paying much attention to the war back then?

Dont forget, the WAR against Iraq and Saddams military forces ended a few years ago. What we are fighting now are terrorists infiltrating Iraq and organizing insurgents. To compare that to Vietnam is just ridiculous.

Wait, so is it still a war now? I'm confused. I've noticed the same double speak from the Bush administration as well. One second its "we're at war, I have war powers!!" The next hes flying to crawford for a month of R&R.

According to info on wikipedia.org, approximately 418,500 Americans died as a result of WWII (including military and civilian deaths).

According to the CDC, in 2003 approximately 2,448,288 Americans died of all causes. Historical data shows around 10,764,000 Americans died of all causes in the decade 1940 - 1949.

So in the scheme of things I guess WWII wasn't that big a deal either? Not to mention those insignificant activities in Korea and Vietnam. :(

I don't think anyone would say 400,000 is an insignificant number of people. 2300 is not insignificant either-I don't want to see one American die. The figures are there to provide prospective and that is what is missing in the war debate IMO.

This is one of those silly arguments that people like to use from time to time. Presidents often have a "working vacation". Do you really think they are just fooling around and not taking care of any of the nation's business? Truman rode on a ship to meet Stalin and Churchill for the Pottsdam Conference and I'm sure he had a few drinks and enjoyed himself on the way. :)

Ah, I see now. It's a simply a question of numbers for Vurbano, that's all. How touchy... why don't you enlist if you think it's right and it's nothing?

So tell us, Vurbano, how many dead is too many dead in your world?

More people died in ONE DAY during WWII than all of IRAQ. Why not look at it from an honest point of view? SPIN SPIN SPIN.

The reson more people come away injured in Iraq is because we have the medical teams in place to help them VERY QUICKLY, unlike WWII.

Why do dems seam so upset that these soliders are making it out alive but injuried? It apears you all would be happier if they died instead so you can gain political power from that!?!

So you're still stand firm behind your statement that 2-3000 dead people is nothing , right?
