I have a KU satellite and I've had cable with TIVO. I'm switching to Directv tomorrow and not quite sure what to expect on two fronts. With my existing TIVO I was able to run the cable coax through the Ku satellite receiver which allowed me to use TIVO for my Ku signal on channel 3 of the TIVO. If the Ku box was off, I had WGN. If the Ku box was on, I had whatever channel the box was on via TIVO. Worked great.

Any idea whether I will be able to feed my Ku box into the new Directv HD/DVR somehow? If not, I could actually just keep my TIVO (won't need it anymore) for Ku broadcasts, so no big deal. I've learned to hate watching TV without a DVR.

I am also planning to run a coax from my 2nd new Directv DVR (Standard Definition) into my existing cable wiring. I'm hoping to be able to run a 10 inch TV in another room off the 2nd DVR and possibly even enable my PIP by running it back to my primary TV off the existing cable. Any idea if that would work?

Thanks!

I don't have the DVR, but the Regular H20 does not have an NTSC tuner. It only has an ATSC.

I purchased an rf modulator just in case the standard definition DVR does not have coax output. Either way I should have a cable signal. My question is really whether the signal will move throughout the house on regular coax. I actually have an amplfier in the line that the cable company put in. If needed, would I just leave that in place just in front of where the cable splits to all of the rooms in the house?

Edited to add: Oops, I think I responded without misunderstanding your post. What is the difference between NTSC and ATSC?

NTSC = Analog
ATSC = Digital
I may have misunderstood you too. I thought you were going to try to use the DirecTV DVR to record from the Ku Sat.

You understood correctly. I've recorded my Ku receiver on TIVO for a few years. Any way to record it on the Directv HD/DVR?

I may be wrong, but not that I know of, there are no Video Inputs on the DirecTV. Without the NTSC tuner, you can't use the Channel 3 / 4 out from another device. The DVR is only to record from DirecTV. If you get to keep the Tivo, you could use that to record the Ku Sat.
I found this......
DIRECTV Plus® HD DVR HR20-700
