Yesterday, I decided to setup the damaged GeoSatPro 1.2M dish for C-band on Galaxy 23 @ 121°W. After I locked EchoStar 9 using a regularly KU/Linear Lnbf, I then swapped it for a DMS741U C/KU LNB, but for the life of me, I could not get any signal from the KU side of the LNB (I tried independently with/without the C/KU jumper cable), but I was able to pickup C-band with it. After about 1.5 hours trying to lock on the KU side of the signal without success:mad: ( but to my embarrassment, I realized that I was using a 10750 for a LO instead of 10600/9750. I will try the KU side again later).:o I then tried the C-band and quickly picked up STO transponder 3707H 5632 SR. The sports Man Channel, 3724H 3002SR, and a shopping channel also a Horizontal transponder. The only one that was stable was the STO channel; the remaining two were cracking up occasionally! But my worst disappointment was not being able to lock on the Baby Channel 3889 H, 13020 SR. No matter which way I moved the LNB, I would only get a fluctuating 0 to 13 Quality :( Adding either the Conical or flat scalar didn't help! It should be noted that on this setup, the flat scalar didn't improve signal much, but the Conical improved quality from 10 to 25 on a Viewsat Ultra meter. But on the Coolsat 5K it is a 50 to 66 or so.
Since, It was getting late and I wanted to watch the Cband stuff in 2 locations, I took out the DMS741U and replaced it with a GEOSATpro C2 (LNBf position 0=3 o'clock or 9 o'clock and my skew is 40 for my location). GEOSATpro C2 quality is 2 or so points lower than the DMS741U. Another disappointment is that I was never able to lock on any V transponders. Why, I don't know! I also noticed when peaking he dish, I had somehow picked up Jewish Life TV on 4176H 20000SR......on 123°W, and when I leaned on the dish to the right (standing behind the dish) it has quality and when I leaned to the left quality dropped to 0. Considering my location should, I be doing better than my currents results? See LNB pictures

To cover the scalar from the elements, I used a cover lid from a mixed snack plastic can (fits as if it was made for the scalar Cone). Quality does seem to be affected.:)

I pray that I can get a channel that on a 1.5 mt after I get that conical dohickey.

CHannels on 121 I was able to lock on the 1.2m dish/conical

Pansat meter (30 threshold)
STO (70 quality)
Sportsman (55-58)
TVW (60)
STO HD (30 but stable)
RFD HD (once in a while....very touchy)

This is in MN

STO SD quality 66-68

on another front............
After trying unsuccessfully yesterday to lock on 113°W and 116.8°W on C-Band, I finally setup Galaxy 16 @ 99°W....WOW  I got signal qualities from 65 to 92 on the coolsat meter. In all I was able to pull in about 15 channels.:) Has anyone in the North East (New England) been successful in locking on 113°W and 116°W C-band, or any other C-band satellites on a MiniBud apart from 121°W and 99°W? Just wondering if there is a list of Hot C-band transponders that can be used in Aiming?

Babadem, I sent you a PM with a list from 2007 of strong transponders for C-Band (I will try to update it).

Also you should try 91.0°W Galaxy 17 C as it is fairly strong.

If you like the horse and dog races, G3c/C has SNG.
PAS ( 58w ) NHK Japan has English channel with some interesting programming.

NHK SQ 60 but rock solid.
SNG SQ 66 on Coolsat 6000P

All these posts are extremely helpful. Thank you everyone for posting your 1.2m results! I noticed on 121W that if the azimuth of my dish is moved slightly west after tuning Sportmans and STO, I can receive Sopresa and many others. I wonder if my elevation is set correctly or I'm eliminating adjacent satellite interference. On another topic, tonight I'm watching Leno on NBC US Virgin Islands at 99W and it starts breaking up terribly. Would you believe the cause was TI from my Uniden cordless telephone handset? I verified this with a spectrum analyzer.

At the highlighted.

I noticed simillar occurrances, but I don't exactly remember the name of the channel(s). Any one from the North East United states with feedbacks on 1.2M signal readings on C-Band?

On a lighter note: I noticed that all of you receiving lots of C-band channels are located in California!!

Another phenomenon some notice on a small dish is better reception after 9PM and before 10AM. Small change 3 to 6% SQ.

Maybe due to this-

I have the same issue in MN with the 6 footer. If I max signal on STO & Sportsman I cant get the TP with America One and RFD TV sucks....shift it east and I can get RFD TV, America One etc just fine but the other 2 signal goes down a smidge.

There's probably an explanation for this phenomenon. Maybe someone could chime in and enlighten us.

I've noticed while adjusting the conical scalar in and out that there is a peak for one TP while another falls lower in SQ.

Most commercial installations don't have issues like this due to one dish for one TP. FTA is a lot more complicated in that respect.

I've experienced the same issue with moving the dish slightly to peak a TP while another TP falls away in SQ. This was true for me with RTV and LEO 1 and on C band with small dish.
