Looking to sell my Dish Hopper 3 but I have no idea how much. I’m not a reseller, just a guy trying to unload his gear. It worked last time it was used. I had it for about 6 months until I moved and had to cancel service in September 2018. Has been in climate controlled storage unit since then. Looks like I won’t be signing up for Dish anymore. This unit was paid for and in the clear with Dish. It says remanufactured on the sticker on the back. I’m guessing the Smart card is built in because the sticker on the top has the Smart card number. Original remote is included.

I searched eBay and there’s not one single listing that I can find to compare prices. I have no idea how much to sell it for.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

New H3's (may be refurbed) sell for about $230 at retailers like Solid Signal. A used H3 for about $180 would probably sell fairly quickly...

You have to call dish and have them remove it from your account. It is not usable until you do this. Any potential new owner will be told by dish the equipment is owned by another party and activated on their account.

A good point... Just having the receiver deactivated is not enough. It must be deleted from the account also before a new owner can add and activate it on their own account. A Dish CSR can take care of that.

This may be true if the resold receiver's previous account is still active with another receiver. I am not sure the same thing still applies if the previous account is completely closed. In this specific case, the account has been closed since September 2018. When the new owner calls to activate the Hopper 3, it should just be a matter of Dish checking to see that the receiver is not leased, and checking the account previously tied to the receiver to see that it is closed. I wouldn't expect any trouble activating it on a new account at that point.

The DVR is completely cleared from my old account. I followed all the proper procedures when I canceled my service, verified I owned the box, and even got a small refund check from Dish when it was all over with.

I have another question. Is it possible to power it up, and navigate to Settings to reset the box and erase everything? I was wondering, without a satellite signal connected, would the box let me navigate any menus at all?

Thank you all for your input on prices. I’ll head to eBay and see if I can sell this thing.

This is not correct. As user crodrules said above, once the new buyer calls to activate it, they will simply transfer it to the new account. I just spoke to a CSR at Dish who told me exactly this. And she re-confirmed the box is mine. Just like I said.

Thanks again everyone.

Sorry friend but I know first hand as of a week ago this is what happened to me personally. Maybe they changed their policy in the last few days.

Just went live on eBay. Should be pretty easy to find. I’m guessing they don’t allow links in here.

Yes, as I explained to you, they do seemingly change their policy on reactivating used receivers periodically. It can even vary just depending on which CSR you get. So, it is just another case of CSR roulette, maybe.

Also, the key difference with the receiver I sent you is that my Dish account is still active. Although the ViP211k was already deactivated, it was still listed under My Equipment along with my active receiver, until I called Dish to remove the ViP211k. Once the Dish account is completely closed, the policy as far as reactivating used equipment from that account on another account may very well be completely different, as confirmed by kirbylile above.
