Actually, it has a lot to do with both the city and the team's name. Columbus is the capital of Ohio, so having the Ohio state flag in the shape of the letter C is cool.

And, the name "blue jackets" refers to the large number of union soldiers who were stationed in Columbus during the Civil War (for those unaware, union soldiers wore blue jackets while confederates wore gray). So, the jersey kind of uses that as well.

Although it reminds me of a team USA jersey or Allstar jersey as well.
