new customer status

Hello, I used to have directtv hd about 3 years ago and had to cancel before my contract was up because after my move I couldn't get directive hd. Any idea if I sign up now if I will be considered a new customer? Should I not call/submit it in my name? Would my wife need to sign for the new customer deal?
I THINK you're considered new after 24 months of no service BUT I'm not 100% sure, just call and try and if they say no then have your wife call :)
