After almost 4 years as an AT&T Dish SD customer, I'm switching to AT&T DirecTV HD. I'm getting an HD-DVR and a 2nd room SD receiver. Install is scheduled for tomorrow morning.

Will the installer use the existing wiring that DISH installed in 2005, or will they run new wiring?

How big is the DirecTV HD antenna compared to the DISH 500?

Should I get the protection plan that DirecTV offers?

Hopefully it'll go well. :)

I just made the switch from Dish to DIRECTV and I'm very happy. The dish will be bigger than what you have now, so be prepared for that. Depending on how you are setup now, and whether or not they use a SWM or not will decide if they need one or two wires to the DVR. If they go with a SWM LNB then they will most likely be able to use the existing wire. If they go with a standard LNB with a built in multiswitch you will need 2 wires to the DVR.

Install went smoothly. He used the existing wiring. I got an HR21-100 new in box as well as a basic receiver for the 2nd TV. After being with DISH all these years, I feel lost with the menus, channels and recording options, but I guess that's to be expected. :)
