No phone line

I'm a super "basic" user of my tv. (No HD, nothing fancy). I have a 522 PVR.

Recently we decided we never use our home phone, just cell phones, so we cancelled our service.

It seems I can now pay $5/month to have no phone line plugged in.

I have a cable modem.

Is there any way to use a free service like Skype to serve as my "home" phone line for the PVR??

The Vip series receivers have such a connection, I don't think the 522 does though.

I think that he is contemplating using the phone jack not the ethernet port.

There are several reports of it working and some of it not working.

Unfortunately there is no ethernet port on the back of the 522, just a phone line jack.

i don't see why you don't sign up for VoIP service

That may well surpass the cost for the $5/month fee!

Vonage is the only one I know of. Can you recommend others for me to look into?
