Will an old dual LNB DISH 500 (the small one) work with a VIP211? If it will, do I have to combine 110 and 119 on the LNB or just use one? Will it provide HD? Sorry, new to trying to do my own work?:(

For a resident of "Southeast", a DISH 500 will not work for HD as garys pointed out. If you own the ViP211 and don't subscribe to HD programming, it will certainly limp along. If you're leasing the ViP211, you would be missing out on most of the HD programming that you're required to pay for as part of the Lease Agreement.

Just to clarify a bit, if your D500 has a "twin" on it and not a "dual" as stated, there is a built-in switch. So you would only need one cable to a 211 to give it everything on 110/119. If you also subscribe to HD, you will be missing a lot of channels either on 129 or the 61.5/77 pair for us easterners.

The Krell,

The Core SD and HD channels for Eastern Arc are all on either 61.5 or 72.7, 77 only has local market channels. In my Market my HD locals are to be added this Wednesday on 61.5 so I could get all my SD/HD Core Channels with HD Locals from 61.5 and 72.7.

It is possible to use a Single Dish 500 to pick up 61.5 and 72.7. Its not an ideal solution as 61.5 and 72.7 are more than 9 Degree separation for 119 and 110 used with a Single Dish 500 (which is optimized for the 9 degree separation. My Parents have a Dish 500 pointed at 61.5 and 72.7 and the signal strength is ok, but about 5-8 points less on the Signal Pointing than using a standard installation.

actually in most new installs they are giving folks 211's as the basic receiver even if they dont subscribe to HD. There is a option in the menu's to lock out HD channels and fix the aspect ratio.

For EA they give those out and there have been posts for folks on WA that got those too on a new install instead of a 301/311

In northern NH, most people can barely get a signal on 77 with the EA dish and there are definitely no locals for NH on 77 (so the 3rd lnb is a complete waste).

I used a Dish 500, and even though the dish is optimized for the Y bracket at 9 degrees, I get signals anywhere between 30 to 90 on all transponders (pointing to 61.5 & 72.7).

I am in the southeast and use 2 Dish 300's with legacy lnb and sw21 switches for the EA. I was able to get better signals using 2 dishes versus the 500. I do not subscribe to locals so 61.5 and 72 are all I need.

My system is a bit of a kluge because my installer didnt have a 1000.4 dish for an eastern arc install. I have 1 Dish 500 with dual LNB pointing directly at 61.5 and a second Dish 500 dish with a single LNB pointing at 72.7. Locals are on 61.5, most HD's on 72.7. I have no need to see the sat at 77 which has international channels and locals only.
