"Privacy center" virus

Haven't had any luck with any thing I found there. Looks like I'm going to have to "scrub" the whole computer again.

Why won't the sites shown in the google search "privacy center removal" work? They seem pretty specific to me, and this doesn't look like a tough one to kill. You need to kill a couple of processes, remove a couple of directories and change 6 registry entries. You also need to search out 3 DLLs and remove them (possibly after going to a safe mode boot)

This site seemed to provide the most complete info: http://www.spywarevoid.com/remove-privacy-center-privacycenter-removal.html

Good question. Best to avoid whatever Woz is using.

I have traditionally used AVG Free anti-virus, but have recently started using 'Microsoft Security Essentials' on my Windows 7 machines. It seems a little less intrusive and lightweight.

The descriptions I read online said it generally comes in as a trojan attached to a video codec.

In other words, there was a malware site disguised as a porn download site, and the OP downloaded the codec he thought was necessary to view the porn .

Malwarebytes and Avast free antivirus are my personal favorites. I've used them to knock the gremlins out of a couple friends computers.

Websites or women the same rules apply. 1) Use reliable protection. 2) The more immoral they are the more likely you are to catch something nasty. 3) Sometimes the innocent appearing ones will give you something unexpected.

I would have thought someone with such a big stick up their butt would have a more enlightened attitude towards porn.

It has nothing to do with porn. I consider Paul a friend and valued contributor to this board, and was offended at how you called him out. That post was intended to embarrass him and to make you look clever.

I think the post was intended to be funny, nothing more. You're the one making something out of nothing.
