Q: Combining 2 accounts?

Hi all, new to the site, I'm looking for help with my unique situation...

I have Dish Network, no lease/contract on my account(7 years), with 510 and 501 receivers. My in-laws have a Dish Network account, with a lease and a 625 receiver activated in May 2007.

Due to illness, my in-laws are moving into our downstairs. Dish Network has stated we can not have two accounts at the same address. This is fine with us, as we planned to cancel my account and they will use Dish Mover service to transfer their account to our house.

The first problem encountered was Dish Network was insisting I had to cancel my account(and lose my service) before they would even set up a date/time for the Mover service. In talking with Tech Support, we got around this by changing the account on my account. I've got my account schedule to cancel as of October 1.

The Tech Support CS rep scheduled the Mover service for this Friday. He stated the service call would only be to activate their 625 receiver at our house.

Can the 625 and my 510 receiver both be active off of the satelite? And I'm very much looking for suggestions on the best/easiest/least expensive option for upgrading my receiver to a 625 or ?

Thanks!
George

You can have 2 accounts. You just need to use different addresses. Like...

123 any street Apartment A
your-town, state, zip

and

123 any street Apartment B
your-town, state, zip

625 and 510 should be able to use your existing satellite, but they may need to add a switch (or switches). I had a 508PVR and a 625 until recently. Now I have teh 508PVR (bedroom TV) and a 622.

Yes do as the above has said. Just have the in-laws make their address apartment a or something. A Dish500 will run a 625 and a 510 no problem. No switches needed just the use of a DPP Twin. The tech should be happy to have a dish already there and ready to go.

Just a note - The tech will only be getting paid to install the 625 on his work order. If you are going to be moving things around slip him a tip for the work on the 510 or he may not do it.

I would then just cancel your account. After all the work has been done for the movers. Then just add your 510 on the in-laws account.

I solved the issue of two addresses thanks to a timely event here in our small town. Last Sunday they had a ceremony to 'rename' our highway in honor of a Colonel. When I told this to the Dish Tech rep, we decided that changing my account to the new highway name would allow the two accounts to be on the system. My account is still scheduled to end Oct 1.

Next question... since I do want to be helpful in 'preping' my house for the install... with the 625, my understanding is that the cable comes from the dish to the 625, and then from the 625 a cable runs to the TV2 input? So if the TV2 is in a bedroom, it would help to already have a cable installed going from the location of the 625 to the bedroom? I'm thinking I should install an outlet with 2 coax connections in the wall next to the 625 box, one to pass the signal from the dish to the 625, and the second to send the signal to the TV2 in the other room.

Since this 625 box is downstairs, I'd also like to send the TV2 output upstairs, so I'll need to split the TV2 signal as well?

Thanks again for the input!
George

In the end it would seem that a single account is more cost effective for you. You would think that DISH would be more accommodating to you since you did call to inquire as to what is the correct method instead of somehow tryng to do something without their knowledge.

But sometimes no good deed goes unpunished.

Rather than having them do the combining, or figuring out how to make Dish Mover work, how about a Dish'n It Up upgrade to add a receiver to your account? Once done, just cancel the other acct. There would be a new commitment but that's probably not an issue for you.

Install date

How do you guys move then.....
