Hey Robert,

I saw a post of yours about VONAGE, here it is below:

For those without landlines, and whom have broadband (dsl or cable) why not
get http://www.vonage.com ? They have a $14.99 plan that includes 500
minutes or $24.99 for unlimited local and 500 long distance (that's what I
have).

I wired my vonage box into my house lines (which were dead after
discontinuing my bell company) so now all my house jacks are live with
vonage. Plug in a dsl filter from radio shack for $10 and you're good to go.
That's what I did to get my Brinks home security system to work, which also
requires a land line :)

HTH,

Robert

could you please tell me how exactly you wired your vonage box into your house lines?

did you connect the phone out from the vonage box directly to 1 phone jack in your house?

I tried this and they (vonage) told me that I shouldnt do that as I could kill the box, I wonder if this works cause Im stuck with 1 phone jack and if I could rewire this to use my house wireing i could have phone jacks all over the house instead?

anyway thanks,

I hope you see this, I couldnt find a way to direcly PM you since your were a only "guest" :)

uhm, why did my thread/post get moved under this???? now it makes no sence

RE: [VOOM] Robert Heitner, I have a Q about your vonage setup

I have the maintenance plan with Brinks which covers inside wiring so I made
a service call. The guy showed up and I explained the Vonage box and he just
opened up a jack on the wall, split the wires and made a plug. We plugged
that into the Vonage phone line 1 and that lite up all jack's in the house.
I have not had a single problem. I've had it this way since March '03. It
took the guy about 3 minutes to do the wiring. I know my alarm works because
my cleaning people turned on the alarm forgetting about my dog and I came
home to cops at my house, weapons drawn. Apparently they take motion sensor
alarms a lot more seriously <g>

I'm sure if you either do the above or call someone who know's how to work
with phone jacks/wiring you can get it done.

HTH,

Robert Heitner Jr.

thanks for the answer... (PS threads/post in this forum act all weird)

You can connect to 1 jack and thus send the Vonage to all the phones in the house just fine but FIRST you must go to the Demarc (box outside where the telco lines come into your house) and disconnect the telco lines from your house. This will stop the voltage from the telco lines from hurting the Vonage ATA.

Pete, I just signed up for vonage and didn't think of the consequences of losing my land line in regards to my satellite system. Unfortunately I am wiring/electrical impaired. Is it really as easy as disconnecting the telco lines and is this something you would recommend I hire a professional for? Thanks in advance! MJB

If you feel comfortable pulling the connection in the Demarc outside, it should be no problem connecting it yourself. The Demarc box has a screw that opens the customer access. Inside you will find a jumper that has a RJ11 (standard phone connection) plug. That wire is the phone line coming to your house. This should be plugged into a jack that is your home's wiring. By disconnecting that plug from the jack, you are disconnecting the phone company's line from your home's wiring. Now all you have to do is plug the Vonage box's Line 1 into any phone jack and that will power all the rest of the jacks in your home. It is pretty easy to do. Hope that helps, Pete

[VOOM] Re: Robert Heitner, I have a Q about your vonage setup

Not all homes have the rj-11 jack. Mine comes into the house and
each of 5 wires or so are screwed into a terminal of '60s vintage. I
plan on labeling what goes where and popping those off.
