Rocky Returns with First Look at Stallone and Jordan in 'Creed'

Sylvester Stallone offers up the first look at Creed in which he once again stars as Rocky Balboa alongside Michael B. Jordan as the grandson of Apollo Creed, played by Carl Weathers in the first four Rocky features. There is no official synopsis as of yet, but it's quite clear by the above image that Balboa will be serving as a mentor to the young man. Tessa Thompson (Dear White People) co-stars with Fruitvale Station director Ryan Coogler at the helm.Creed is slated for a Nov. 25, 2015 release.Meanwhile, Stallone also confirms (via Twitter) that he's at work writing Rambo: Last Blood, the fifth Rambo film, which he'll shoot before beginning work on his Colombo crime family drama Scarpa. Creed, the Rocky spinoff, is in the heat of production in anticipation of its November 25 release date, and now we have our first look at Stallone and the new star Michael B. Jordan. Check out the Human Torch in his new role as Adonis Johnson, the son of Apollo Creed. Sylvester Stallone revealed the first photo from Creed on Instagram the other day, and he too is getting in fighting shape. The 68-year-old aging action star reprises his legendary role opposite Jordan as Adonis’ trainer. Though he never knew his famous father, the prospective boxer feels the need to pursue the sport. So when he arrives in Philadelphia, the city that hosted the fight between Creed and Rocky Balboa, he seeks out this former champion to whip him into shape. While Rocky claims to be out of the game for good this time, he sees Creed’s same strength and determination emerging from the young Adonis. He ultimately agrees to train him, though he’s "battling an opponent more deadly than any he faced in the ring."

This should prove to be an interesting relationship, given past events. Though Adonis is said to never have known his father, one has to assume he’s aware of his fate. Carl Weathers portrayed Apollo Creed in 1985’s Rocky IV, during which he meets his end during a fatal match with Dolph Lundgren’s Drago. Rocky held onto that towel for just a tad bit too long, and it’ll surely come back to light when he meets Creed’s son. Creed also stars Phylicia Rashad as Mary Anne Creed, Apollo’s widow; Tessa Thompson as Adonis’ singer-songwriter love interest, Bianca; and English pro-boxer Anthony Bellew as champion "Pretty" Ricky Conlan. But this is Jordan’s game. The 28-year-old had a fantastic year when he broke out as a star to watch in Ryan Coogler’s Fruitvale Station. Shortly afterwards, he starred opposite Miles Teller and Zac Efron in That Awkward Moment and he was cast as the new Human Torch in Josh Trank’s Fantastic Four reboot. Though he didn’t get an Oscar nomination for Fruitvale Station, a decision that earned its fair share of haters, Creed might throw him in the consideration pool. This is already proving to be a major year for Jordan, with his first superhero outing debuting in theaters this August 7, and Creed coming a couple months later.

‘Creed’ Trailer: Latest ‘Rocky’ Sequel Enters The Ring And This One Has Punch https://www.yahoo.com/tv/s/creed-trailer-latest-rocky-sequel-001017760.html
This is two minutes and forty three seconds of just pure sublime. It’s Ryan Coogler’s Creed, the MGM/New Line film that Warner Bros will release this fall. This isn’t just another installment of Rocky. After Coogler and Michael B Jordan teamed on the Sundance sensation Fruitvale Station, each of these young guys had their pick of projects. Coogler used his currency on his dream to make Creed. Turns out that while he was growing up, Coogler’s father showed him the Rocky movies to instill the notion of heroes and the idea that dreams can come true with hard work. As he became an accomplished wide receiver at Sacramento State and a budding filmmaker, Coogler’s father later came down with ALS. All of the touchstones of his life are rolled into this movie and it required him to win the trust of Stallone, who was very protective over his first and most memorable character creation. When the movie became a reality, there was no one else he wanted to play the role of Apollo Creed’s son (it started out as grandson, but that evolved). It is becoming a right of passage for actors to play ring heroes, and, just like Jake Gyllenhaal in Southpaw, Miles Teller in Bleed for This and Edgar Ramirez in Hands Of Stone, Jordan accepted the challenge and got himself into rocking gym shape. The film follows the late Apollo Creed’s son Adonis Johnson stepping into the boxing ring, a profession which killed his father in Rocky IV when he battled Russian fighter Drago. “Your Daddy died in the ring,” a trainer reminds the young Creed who retorts, “That got nothin’ to do with me.” Adonis turns to Rocky Balboa to train him. At this point, The Italian Stallion has completely checked out of the boxing game. Deadline broke the story about Creed back in July 2013.Best part in the trailer that will raise hairs, is when the young Creed meets Rocky:

Jordan plays Creed's son Adonis. Jordan was seen this year in the Fantastic Four, as well as starring in Fruitvale Station. In June, USA Today revealed that it was Coogler who approached Stallone about the film. Stallone had previously decided that 2006's Rocky Balboa would be the boxer's final cinematic bout, but Coogler's concept of pairing an aging Rocky with a young upstart won Stallone's involvement."Rocky had achieved far beyond his dreams," Stallone said. "He's sitting in his mental rocking chair, waiting for his time to come. The last thing he expected was this young man to come in and turn his world upside down."Creed opens on November 25, and also stars Tessa Thompson, Phylicia Rashad, and Anthony Bellew.

Stallone still packs punch with Rocky fans ahead of 'Creed https://www.yahoo.com/movies/s/stallone-still-packs-punch-rocky-return-creed-192815761.html
There's a scene in "Creed" where the latest brash boxer who challenges the upstart protege of Rocky Balboa barks, "No one cares about Balboa anymore!"Yo, through 40 years of Rocky as an underdog, champion, and aging, widowed fighter, fans sure do care.Dressed in robes, fedora hats and even boxing boots, the costumed enthusiasts chanting "Rocky! Rocky! Rocky!" on Friday had one more reason to cheer for Philadelphia's favorite fictional son.Sylvester Stallone goes one more round as Balboa in the spinoff "Creed," and he wants the character to tally even more before he joins Adrian, Apollo and Paulie in that great squared circle in the sky."There's more to go," Stallone said Friday. "I would like to follow this character until eventually he's an angel."The 69-year-old Stallone, writer of the first "Rocky" that earned 10 Academy Award nominations including best picture, promised more movies based on Balboa and Adonis Creed. Creed is the son of Rocky's heavyweight rival and beach-running friend, Apollo Creed, and the titular character who coaxed Balboa out of retirement and into a trainer's role in the movie set for a Nov. 25 release.
