Scratchy bad recordings

I am running Recast version 1.2.4 and some of my recordings come out really terrible. Most are crystal clear but about 1/10 th of them are unusable. I have tried messing with my sound settings and this doesnt seem to help. I have set it up for Recast to control my gain. Is anyone else having this problem and maybe a possible fix?

Is this with radio hardware or with XM-Online?

How are you connecting the hardware to the sound card?

What sound card do you have?

I am direct connected through an xm direct connect box using a soundblaster live! soundcard with the newest drivers loaded. I am running windows xp
