So what's next for 21 Exclusives?

So we saw that Epics was combined with the HD Cinema 10; Equator HD took its place (a Travel HD channel).

Out of the 10 HD Cinema channels, there are 5 that were defined:

Divine HD (10)
Gunslingers HD (9)
Epics HD (8)
Classics HD (7)
WorldCinema HD (2)

There are 5 Cinema HD channels with no definition. Assuming that 21 Exclusive channels will remain, what would you do to improve the channels without reducing the amount of channels?

Here's what I'll do:

1-Monsters HD combine to HD Cinema 3. (or take the place of HD Cinema 3)
2- Create Science Fiction HD (4)
3- Combine Moov, Gallery, & Auction into one Channel - Art HD.
4- Combine Rush and WorldSports

Now you have 3 channels from HD cinema without designation and 2 free HD channels that you might create something else.

So here's my lineup:

Equator HD
Art HD
Animania HD
Rave HD
WorldSport/Rush HD
Monsters HD
Epics HD
Gunslingers HD
Classics HD
Divine HD
WorldCinema HD
Science Fiction HD
HDnews
Ultra-HD


I end up with 7 "free" HD channels that I need to go back and create new content or create a channel that will appeal to the mass. Maybe Bikini-HD like Vurbano said. My choice will be to dedicate one to Comedy, Another to Drama, and 5 others I do not have any idea so far.

So what's your line up of channels and what would you do with the ones that are left.

I agree with 1,2 & 3 but not with 4. For me Rush and WorldSports are clearly 2 different channels with clearly defined identinies. WorldSports must be a traditional sport channel while Rush is about extreme sports and activities (which are not necessarily considered sports). I love both channels and yes they desperately need a lot of new content.

I agree with 1 and 2, but not 3 and 4.
3 -- Moov is very different from the other two channels. I like Gallery pretty much as it is, though I would like to see more content obviously. Auction I never watch -- some of it is about art, but some of it isn't. I would not want to give up Gallery time to those Auction programs.
4. What Walter said -- Rush and Worldsport are really different. You could get away with it now with Worldsport just showing soccer re-runs, but when Worldsport adds enough content it should be its own channel.
My least favorite exclusives at the moment are Auction and Ultra, but I guess there are people who like those.

TechHD - A channel about new technology including HDTV, PC's, video games, etc (a concept similar to G9TechTv but with the advantage of HD )

Sean, I pretty much like all your ideas. I would combine Epics and Gunslingers into an Action channel. Add long non-action movies to other channels. Get rid of Divine and WorldCinema, and put their movies into drama or comedy. Let AMC-HD replace classics when it comes online. Rave goes into Art. I would increase HD Sports highlights on HDNews by a factor of 1000 (not a typo). My Exclusives:

My ideas for new channels:

#1. Stay ahead of all other services. To do that Voom needs to add every HD network that becomes available. And all the sports packages it can. Remember D* just launched 7s to free up room for more HD and plans 2 launches in 2005.
#2 Get over this 21 exclusive channel crap. Whatever bandwidth is left over after #1 is how many exclusives voom should have. Id say that number may be zero after #1 is accomplished. That is if Voom would like to be around after 2005. IF not, then I hope Dolan enjoys playing around with his 21 exclusive toys until then.

what vurbano said is definitely true. Voom should add all the independent HD networks that become available and they should reduce their number of exclusive channels to about 8-12. Sean's line up seems very good, the only change I would make is to leave worldsport and rush hd as separate channels; I'm also a bit skeptic about the ScienceFiction HD channel. All the cinema channels should be reduced to about 3-4 since there is no need to take 10 channels to show all those average movies.

I added Ultra-HD since I forgot about it. Of course, this is all fantasy.... Walter, I agree about the Tech HD channel. It will be great to have it in HD. Content for a channel like that can be created fairly easier than content for Equator HD. Just have a studio, guets, a few outside cameras to go to electronic events, etc....

Keep MOOV and GALLERY separate. GALLERY is great as it is.

Keep RUSH and WORLDSPORT separate. They are really separate focuses.

AUCTION is the one channel I cannot get into. Does anybody watch that?

And I guess somebody somewhere likes ULTRA.

Even MOOV is okay sometimes.

CINEMA 10 concepts could be played with some more, but KEEP "WORLD CINEMA" just add more content.

I could go for a new "PLAYHOUSE HD" channel for staged drama and experimental theater.

EQUATOR is excellent.

I'm not so much concerned that the 21 exclusive channels are preventing them from adding new ones (they're not adding inhd etc b/c they won't cough up the money), but that they're preventing them from improving the PQ. I don't care what they say, they are bit starving these channels.

My only mod to Sean's lineup would be to keep Rush and WorldSports as two separate channels.

-I would like to see WORLD SPORTS add content like Rugby, Rules Football, Martial Arts, Thai Kickboxing and even Sumo to the lineup. I got to see plenty of HD Sumo while living in Japan a few years ago and found it to be very interesting. And yes, seeing two 400+ pound diaper wearing fatties in glorious HD was quite horrific the first time :shocked

-Also, I would like to see MORE SPORTS: INHD and one RSN would be sweet!!

Rush/Worldsport- I agree with most here that these channels should be kept separate. I imagine that it just sounds convenient to mash them together at this point because of the lack of content. Hopefully, down the road there will be easily enough content to fill these 2 channels.

As far as other ideas, I agree we need some kind of channel devoted to attractive women Bikini HD sounded pretty kewl... i think id never switch the channel.

No their inability to negotiate a contract is and that is damaging as well. But what about NBATV? MLS soccer, A few HD PPV channels. Fox sports networks etc. More and more of these will be HD. The missing SD channels?

Well, I'm leaving aside any SD talk and non-Rainbow controlled channels. A few disagreements:

1. Why keep WorldSport and Rush seperate? They both specialize in repeating programming that not too many people watch. You like soccer, or MotoPIg? There's 5-7 hours of TV time for you to watch per weekday. I don't think Rush and Worldsport can combine to give 5-7 hours of content per week.

2. Auction/Ultra/Gallery is a no brainer. I say use MOOV as after hours filler on Rush/MOOV. Let the stoners keep the other 4:20.

3. An Action channel is a must. Voom already has a good start in realizing this with movies like Towering Inferno.

4. I forgot about Equator. So my list has been changed to reduce PPVs. We definitely need PPV. And more porn. And flapjacks.

Yes they gave us Divine...now its time to give us Bikini HD. Actually...I would do as many merges as possible to free up more bandwidth. Even if it is to improve PQ and not add any other ch's. Its clear that there is a major snag with INHD and VOOM....I dont get it, you think they had a ch lined with gold. Get it done already!!! Cut some production cost by merging ch's. I wouldnt miss Moov, or Auction.
