How are these related ?

There was talk on Wall Street, last year, that AT&T was interested in buying Dish. Their U Verse has limited exposure, and has not performed all that well in the markets where it is available. They already have a coop scenario in certain parts of the country offering DSL. The bundling services that cable is pushing, would seem to be the future objective.

At least that is what I have heard.........

This deal sets a precedent. Potentially indicating that D* and E* could get regulatory clearance to merge or be bought out based on the fact that terrestrial and cable television (plus IPTV) would be considered their competitors. Even though there would be no competition in relation to Satellite TV distribution.

"The Street" must of heard that the subs are unhappy with the amount of HD added today ... :)

Satellite radio gets by the monopoly tag because there is no part of the continental U.S. not covered by terrestrial radio signals and they compete with things like CD's, I-Pods, etc. for listeners in vehicles. Cable TV doesn't cover the U.S., so those areas not serviced by cable are said to be protected from a monopoly by the competition between E* and D*. If they merge, no competition.
