Robert at VE mentioned that KONG will be out in August. KONG will be the killer app for HD DVD IMO.

Universal has announced a bunch more HD-DVD releases today as well, including Red Dragon, Seabiscuit and Traffic on 9/12, and End of Days and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas on 9/19 (SRP for all is $29.98 each). Also on 9/19, the studio will release a pair of DVD/HD-DVD Combo titles, including Dazed and Confused and George A. Romero's Land of the Dead (SRP $34.98 each).

Meanwhile, Sony has set RV for DVD, UMD and Blu-ray Disc release on 8/15, with Silent Hill following on DVD, UMD and Blu-ray Disc on 8/22.

Wonder why it takes so long to release a movie? September seems far away.

The main problem they have now is that the authoring software is all new and few people know how to use it. Both HD-DVD and BR are in the startup phases now. People are expecting fancy new menus and such, and of course each film has its legal qualifications as to who has say over what the HD-DVD/BR will look like, i.e. the backgrounds (artwork) on the menus, the flow of the menus, etc.

It is frustrating waiting for them (HD DVD). At least they seem to know what they are doing though. Most are worth the wait.

Amazon has pretty good prices & promotions for upcoming HD DVD releases. Everyone gets a 10% discount on HD DVD's after buying 3 HD DVD's or a HD DVD player. I have a free 3 month trial of Amazon Prime, which gives me free 2 day shipping with no minimum order. I have these on order (all prices after all discounts):

July 11 -
Enter the Dragon $17.71
Dukes of Hazzard $18.45
Friday Night Lights & Pitch Black $22.26

Sept. 12 -
Traffic & Red Dragon $18.89

Sept. 26 -
Land of the Dead & Dazed & Confused $21.81
