TiVo or not TiVo? Some buying advice to help you sift through DVR deals

Last month, when Dish Network announced a ``Free DVR promotion,'' the satellite provider launched the first bomb in a price war that's headed straight for the TiVo target and likely will lead to good buys for the consumer over the next few months.

The promotion is evidently drawing interest. The satellite TV provider announced Wednesday that it reached its one-millionth subscriber milestone.

Can I watch one program and record another?

A With most DVRs you can only do this if the program you want to watch is a previously recorded show. Watching a live program and recording another can only be done with DirecTV's dual tuner TiVo DVR.

Q So much of this seems to be tied

Good article in a question/answer format but the writer should look more into the E* DVRs that offer dual tuner.
