To Heck With James Bond, Idris Elba Should Take Over The 'Transporter' Series http://www.forbes.com/sites/scottme...eries/?utm_campaign=yahootix&partner=yahootix
The Transporter Refueled debuted over the Labor Day weekend with something of a thud, earning just $7.1 million over the Friday-to-Sunday portion of the holiday weekend and registering as the lowest opening for a sequel in 2015 thus far. In seemingly unrelated news, 007 author Anthony Horowitz got himself into hot water last week during a lengthy interview when he replied that he felt that Idris Elba, a popular fan casting choice among film fans who would like to see more diversity in iconic roles but don’t know that many other black actors, was too “street” to play James Bond. The irony of the author being attacked as racist despite the fact that he actually had a personal favorite pick for a black James Bond (Adrian Lester, still sadly best known in America for Primary Colors) is arguably offset by his lazy assumption that Elba wasn’t right for one part (007) because he was too unlike James Bond in another part (Luthor). It’s called “acting” for a reason, but I digress.Idris Elba doesn’t need to play James Bond in order to be a popular movie star. But as we saw this weekend, The Transporter is a franchise that desperately needs a genuine movie star, as this Jason Statham-free variation just didn’t cut it. Hmmm, an idea is forming… Whoever the next James Bond is going to be after Daniel Craig leaves the franchise either after Spectre or whenever is probably going to be someone who is not on our radar yet. The notion that it’s going to be a big movie star like Tom Hardy, Hugh Jackman, or yes Idris Elba is a little unlikely if not outright implausible.
I had a friend who saw the new Transporter film and said it was ok but nowhere near with Statham in it and imo hey should of done everything to keep Statham but Elba would be a good choice for the Transporter films!! :)
