Transfer movies from broken H3

My hopper 3 will not boot. Is there any legal way to transfer my movies to the new H3 when it arrives.

If the hopper won't even power on, there's probably little chance you'll recover any recordings.

I have never taken my H3 apart. But on older receivers, you could attach a SATA (and power) cable from the new receiver to the old disk without breaking any seals. Then you could use the new H3 to copy to an EHD, and once done, unhook the old disk and transfer the programs from the EHD back to the new H3.
