Anybody have any experience transfering shows from a Hopper to an iPad Mini? Daughter has asked for a Mini for her birthday and I am debating this purchase. Does the Dish Hopper transfer software work on a mini? How does the show look on the screen since I know the resolution is lower on the mini? How much space does a 1 hour show take up in memory? Battery life for watching shows?

Thanks ahead of time for the help!

Dish Transfer app is available and works fine for the Mini. I don't use it much, but I did a few transfers and all worked just fine.

Video is fine also, looks as good as any HD TV I've seen. Battery life would be the same as for any other video I would think though I've never run enough video to test out how long you can watch videos before needing a recharge.
?

Where is a good consolidated location for directions to move saved programs from Dish Hopper w/ sling to Ipad. Would like to find some step by step directions for my daughter so she can do this herself without asking me. Thanks!

Its quite easy.

Download the Hopper Transfer app from the iTunes store.
Make sure your iPad is connected to your wifi network which your Hopper with Sling is hooked to.
Then run the program.

Now you will see your recordings listed on the iPad which are on your DVR. Select the shows you want to transfer and let it do its thing.

The shows will transfer (I believe it takes about 20 minutes per hour of show you transfer.)

Once transferred you can use that app to watch the shows you downloaded from your Hopper.

Cool thanks. Just purchased the Ipad Air and wanted to get this all figured and spelled out before I give this to her for a present. Of course, I am probably worrying about nothing since kids can figure all this stuff out easier and faster than me. ;-)

One thing to be aware of... When you transfer something to your iPad it removes that recording from the DVR. Basically you only get one copy of a recording to share between the hopper and iPad. This can be a problem if one family member is putting programs on the iPad and another family member wanted to watch it on the TV.

I stand corrected. That is the main reason I haven't been using it. Turns out I had no reason to worry about that.

What is frustrating is why not the iPhone? Yes ... it is small ... but when I fly or am sitting in an airport ... it is much easier to pull my phone out of my pocket and watch a program than dig out an iPad from a backpack or the like. I hope they move this to the iPhone.

Off topic ... do you like the Air?

Basically because of the size and the size of the files. Two shows could fill up your phone. :)

That is only accurate if it is premium content.

This is no longer correct. I believe it now applies to NBC Universal content as well (at least that is what happened when I transferred recent episodes of covert affairs and suits)

I think I heard around 2GB per hour. With a 16GB iPhone ... lets say you have 10GB free ... that still gives you 5 hours worth of video. Definitely enough for a plane trip within the US.

With that being said ... my next iPad will probably be the 64 GB version.
