I live in North Carolina at 80° 50.067' longitude west and 35° 10.621' latitude north (according to my GPS laptop card readout). When setting up my motorized dish - should I be aiming it at true south at the beginning? Or should I be considering AMC 5 at 79.0°W (one degree and a half off from my longitude) to be my TRUE SOUTH satellite and aim at that as if it were PRECISELY my true south bird?
My question I suppose is which of the two scenarios - if any - is correct:
1. a. aim dish at true south (compass plus magnetic deviation correction - around 7.5 degrees in my case I think)
b. rotate dish using motor to 79.0 W
c. using sat finder tool or readouts from my receiver - adjust dish such that the signal from 79.0 W is strongest
or
2. a using sat finder or receiver readout aim dish at 79.0W
b. there is no b. I'm done.
Or are both of these procedures wrong and I should be in fact doing something else?
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
