I'm looking to drop the premium channels, which I rarely watch, to save some money although I'd like to keep Encore, especially for the Western channel. As I see it, I have two choices either drop everything but the Starz package or switch from Total Choice Plus to the Choice Ultimate package which includes Encore.

I seem to recall reading here some time ago that there are disadvantages to giving up a "grandfathered" package but I can't remember what they might be. Any thoughts?

with the recent increase I think the small discount you got with the old plan versus the new is now moot
I know my stepdad was on a plan with the package, DVR fee and HD all in one price and it was 1 buck less than what I paid alacarte. In Feb when prices went up the old plans went up $3 the new $2 so now we pay the same

Thanks Iceberg. I crunched the numbers and I come out six bucks better by switching to Choice Ultimate. All in all I'd be saving around $40 a month and that's just what I was looking for.
