USB Switch for External Drives on DISH

I have 2 external drives for a DISH 722 and want to connect both of them I did find a post that said it needs to be a usb switch instead of a hub...the link to the model the poster used was not working...my question is what is the best switch to use with multiple drives? does the switch have to have power? and are there any adapters needed for the usb cables...maybe some can come up with a short step by step on the best way to connect the drives...Thanks
