Vip612 How Many HD hours?

The website states 30 hours, however I have two of these and surprisingly they seem to hold more than 30 hours of HD (Ive never maxed it out). Im assuming this is due to the mpeg4 format files are smaller? If so what are the correct specs for the hard drive? How many hours of HD does it actually store?

The HD comes in 2 flavors, MPEG2 and MPEG4. I think the 30 hours may be based on MPEG2 which takes up considerably more space than MPEG4. My OTA HD recordings usually take 6.5 - 7.5 GB of space per hour. My MPEG4 HD recordings from the satellite are usually 2.25-3.25 per hour. There is some variation in size depending on how the program is encoded so every hour of recording will be somewhat different even with the same codec.
