What is difference between "Dish Pass" and "DVR"

Dish pass is a name based recording utility within certain dual tuner dvrs that allows you to search for a show or information on a show based on your being able to input the name of said show onto a virtual keyboard. The utility searchs the EPG for said show and if it finds it will either display the info your looking for or set up the dvr timer(s) to automaticly record that show(s) that you have opted to look for. The default set up is in its infancy and will hopefully be reworked in a future software update to ask you if you want to allow the show in question to be automaticly recorded for each day listed if its in syndication.

"DVR" Digital Video Recording" is a timer that is set for a specific title on a specific channel. "Pass" evaluates program listing and if the keyword is found on any channel or any description, that program will be recorded.

ie; "DVR" would be to record the series "House" on the OTA Channel 10 on each Tuesday evening from 8-9pm. This can also be setup to record all new episodes.

"Pass" would be to record any show where either the title or description has the keyword "House" in it. Many shows would be recorded, "House", "This Old House", Haunted House" and also any program that has the word "House" in the description.

So, DVR recording is subset of Dish pass since you can narrow search down on Dish pass to match DVR recording and have the same functionality but greater flexibility (you can set up recording to specific channel on Pass as well as far as I remember).
What is the point of having DVR based recording if Dish pass can do the same thing?

DVR & Dish Pass are independent of each other. You can set DVR events or you can define a Dish Pass.

I don't think that you would input a day or channel using pass. You would simply input a keyword that the pass would look for and then it would match up programming and record it.
