Will I lose any channels with a 61.5/72.7/110/119 setup?

I am in Connecticut (Hartford DMA) with a dish 500 at 110/119 and a 2nd dish 500 at 61.5. I have an old 501 receiver so I would like to keep 110/119 if possible.

If I use a DPP44 switch and leave my dish 500 pointed to 110/119 and either re-point my 2nd dish 500 to 61.5/72.7 or get a new 1000.4 and point to 61.5/72.7 (the 77 LNB would be unused), will I be missing any channels by doing it this way?

Is there anything on 77 that is not on 110/119?

Tony,

If you are using 110/119/61.5/72.7 the only channels you will not be able to receive will be some of the Foreign (other than Spanish) Language channels. If you intend to use a 1000.4, I do not believe you will be able to use a DPP44 as well as 110/119. The LNBF for Eastern Arc has an internal switch and I do not believe you will be able to use it and a DPP44 with 110 and 119. The supported installation for an Eastern Arc Dish for Four Orbital slots is to run a Cable from your (one slot) Wing Dish to the LNBF In Port on the Eastern Arc LNBF (so you would have 61.5/72.7/77 and either 110 or 119 as the fourth orbital slot).

The best solution would be either Two Dish 500's (one for 119/110) and (one for 61.5/72.7) connected to a DPP44 switch (although I'm not sure if your DPP44 would be able to use two DP TWINS or if one of your Dish 500's would need TWO single DP LNBF's. With this installation it will support any Dish Network receivers and you would be able to get all of the Core SD channels and all of the Core HD channels, as well as any SD or HD Local market stations and all the Local Market OTA HD Guide Data, except for Foreign Language channels

Those 4 spots will cover all the channels and they're by far the best signals in the Northeast. Yes, you can wire 61.5 and 72.7 to a DPP44 from an eastern arc 1000.4 and 110/119 to the other two ports on the switch. We just did an install with exactly that set-up and the signals are great and all the channels are there.

The signals from 77 are poor in the northeast so this is the preferred setup for maximum signal strength.

Is there any advantage to connecting the 110 LNB to a 1000.4 input? I plan to install a 1000.4 soon and trying to figure out what can be done with that additional input. I have a custom DPP LNB on a 30" dish that never gets rain fade now at 61.5. I could swing it in any direction, including 129 I believe. What would be my best options? I sub to AEP and all the HD channels. Don't need foreign language channels. Also, I'm only feeding a 722 and a 722K

Took down my 61.5 dish today and replaced it with a 1000.4 using 61.5 and 72.7 only.

Kept my existing 110/119 (DishPro LNB's) for the two mpeg2 receivers (501 & 510). Feeding these 4 sats into a DPP44.

I have not cross-referenced all of the channels on 77 vs my current 61.5, 72.7, 110, 119 set up, but I now have the new HD and I don’t think I lost anything.

Hope this helps

IF you plug in 110 to your eastern arc you can use it for distants from All American Direct. If you use 129 , you can back up your hd off of 61.5 and 72.7 and you can get all rsns off both eastern and western arcs if you use the multi sport pack.

One Warning.** Unless DISH fixed it in the last few months, there might be problems with your ota timers, especially if you have locals off of both 129 and they are also duplicated on 61.5 . The ota timers wouldn't work with name based recording features. We found this out last year on several dmas that were on both western and eastern arcs. Beaumont,Tx , my home town is duplicated on both 61.5 & 129 . So are the St.Louis locals & at the time they were also on 118 , a triple duplication. But another member said recently that they fixed the software , so this might not be a factor any longer.

What state in the Northest did you do the install in?

I just had a tech come out on Tuesday, and turn my 61.5 into a 61.5/72.7. So now I have a 110/119 & 61.5/72.7. I would do this setup if I were you. Your won't loose any channels. If something isn't on 72.7 then it will just come from 119 then. Basically the installer just put another LNB on my 61.5 Dish so I could get 72.7. You wouldn't need a 1000.4 Dish at all if you did this, but you would need a DPP44 Switch.

I think we will have to do this, we switched to Dish Latino max and the CSR said we needed 119 so we had a tech visit today. He said we did not need it, we have 61.5/72/77/110, so just activated and left, checking the channels before he left, but i guess he missed a few. We are missing many, but all are SD and we are getting their HD counterpart so not a problem since we have an all hd setup. The only one I really care about is IFC (missing WE, health, and AMC as well which have no HD channel), went on chat and he could not figure out how to make it show up, it just shows up green in the guide on 131 and we were getting it with AT250, the channels list for Max says it should be at 894. Checked the list for 119, and sure enough there it is. The tech chat i had said we did not need 119 and they will check the transponders for signal on Monday, but i am thinking we do need it, for some reason the package we have just won't let us access the 131 channel, the same goes for those other SD channels that we are missing. Again we were getting those channels fine before, so don't think its signal.

I am guessing we will need 119 just to get that one channel plus a few missing Latin music channels. So this is good info to tell the next tech since the last one said he was confused by the order to add 119 to an already 4 sat system. Now did you use the input on the 1000.4, i think thats what we have too, for 110/119, or just run it to the switch? Can you just plug in one of the lines into the 77 spot and the other into the additional spot on the 1000.4? I believe that is how it is setup now, when they set it up they ran a line from the 110 on the other side of the house to the 1000, and then a fourth line to the switch from the 1000. And can you just leave the 3 lnb on the 1000 or do you need a different one? I would like to keep the 1000 dish since i already have a dish heater installed on it.

Thanks for your help.

You need to run wires from the 61.5 and 72.7 outputs on the 1000.4 to the DPP44. You also need to run wires from the 110 and 119 outputs of the Dish500 to the other two inputs on the DPP44.

Great, and you just used the same 3 lnb arm and just left out 77 from the wiring?
Thanks.

Yes. The ports are labeled and there's a diagram in the manual that specifies which port is for which orbital position.

Mike- thanks for the tips. I got word the 1000.4 has shipped so I may be putting these things to the test in a week or two. Appreciate the heads up on the timers. I have a local OTA antenna and prefer to get local HD that way. I'm leaning to the super simple for starters and just work with the 1000.4. I may get the xstreamHD system and can use the old 30" dish for that some day too. I like having lots of options to play with. Made possible by spending $1000 to cut neighbor's 100' trees down. :)

I'd actually like to keep my two 500 dishes (110/119 and 61.5) since they're already mounted in a difficult location. Can I ask why you chose to use a 1000.4? Is it that the LNB spacing is better for 61.5/72.7 on that dish than on a 500? Did Dish willingly supply you with a DPP44 or did you have to ask/cajole/demand and/or pay for it? Or did you already have it (I don't)?

Thanks.

You're welcome. I only hope that DISH did fix the ota timer situation if you have your locals duplicated on both arcs.

Yes, the spacing is correct on the 1000.4 so you should get a stronger signal. About a week ago I started a thread about repointing a Dish 500 to 61.5/72.7 and a lot of people responded that this is possible and many have done it sucessfully. However, the dish 500 is meant for 110/119 so the spacing is for 9 degrees apart; 61.5/72.7 are 11.2 degrees apart so the spacing is not perfect with a dish 500.

Here is a link to my earlier thread about repointing a dish 500:
